"Cathedral Cove" New Zealand

Diana Adams was born in Canterbury in 1969. She originally worked as a landscape architect but now paints full time from her studio in Governor’s Bay. Diana's characteristically bold, clear oil paintings are wonderful contemporary depictions of the bones of landforms and New Zealand’s distinctive tree shapes. Diana says about her work "I am passionate about the New Zealand landscape and landforms. In my paintings I attempt to capture the ethereal qualities of the landscape by reducing the subject to its essential elements."

"Anamorphic Art"

Anamorphosis art is a deformed image that appears in its true shape when viewed in certain perspective. In the early Renaissance period, European artists began to master perspective and became fascinated by the simplest kind of anamorphic art i.e. stretched pictures seen accurately when viewed at a sharp angle. For these artworks, the cylindrical mirror forms image from the continuous infinite image. 5 more pics after the jump. Via: Hemmy and TechEBlog
"Salvador Dali " (Moustache)

“Every morning when I wake up, I experience an exquisite joy – the joy of being Salvador Dalà – and I ask myself in rapture: What wonderful things this Salvador Dalà is going to accomplish today?”
Dali was said to have used the sticky secretions of dates to keep his wild moustache intact. The dates adding the benefit of attracting flies of which Dali was particularly fond. From moustache to madness, Dali is the model of the unfettered mind to which we should all aspire. This site has Moustache Monday, check out the others.Via: ectoplasmosis

"Evil Bee"
“Evil Bee” from Menemona exposes the real story of the birds and the bees. Enslaved and downtrodden, forced to regurgitate a blood-like fluid as honey, one bee rebels, paying the ultimate price while two others find their freedom. The song is excellent, bringing to my mind The Flaming Lips with saxophone accompaniment. I hope you enjoy it. via: ectoplasmosis and You Tube

Royksopp "Remind Me"
May be the most fascinating music video ever -- you can watch it twenty times and still not catch everything. Strange Currencies of The World

Since the beginning of trade, communities have experimented with exchange mediums. These may seem strange now, but they made sense to someone at the time and place they were in use. Interesting and well worth the read.
Yves Tanguy

Yves Tanguy's paintings have a unique, immediately recognizable style of nonrepresentational surrealism. They show vast, abstract landscapes, mostly in a tightly limited palette of colors, only occasionally showing flashes of contrasting color accents. Typically, these alien landscapes are populated with various abstract shapes, sometimes angular and sharp as shards of glass, sometimes with an intriguingly organic look to them, like giant amoebae suddenly turned to stone. via: wiki & Link

The Giant Causeway"

The Giant’s Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns resulting from a volcanic eruption. It is located on the North East coast of Northern Ireland, about 3 kilometres (2 miles) north of the town of Bushmills. Legend has it that the Irish giant Finn McCool built the causeway to walk to Scotland to fight his Scottish counterpart Benandonner.
The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, however there are some with four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (36 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres thick in places. Also :wiki Link

"Sand Circles"
Andres Amador makes large, crop circle-like “paintings” in the sand on the beach at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, and at Burning Man.
Here is a gallery which plays a slide show that has controls for speed and image size.
And here is a (sadly all too small) QuickTime movie time-lapse of a sand circle being made.
Some spectacular imagery - and no crops were trampled on in the making…
"Broken Column House"
The Broken Column House is so named because it takes the form of a ruined classical column.
Truncated nearer to the base than the capital, jagged and riven with fissures, it was created by the aristocrat François Nicolas Henri Racine de Monville who made it his main residence during the years immediately before the French Revolution.
Nestled within the confines of Monville's private pleasure garden, the Désert de Retz, it “stands like a solitary beacon, signaling the visitor to prepare for an encounter with the bizarre.”
And what bizarre encounters.
"Sand Sculptures - Skulls"
These are some of the best sand sculptures art from some really wildly talented individuals and it would be great if we could actually see how they did it in the entire process. There are many methods to mold those sculpting forms but water is always used as the mild binding agent to hold the sand particles together. The amount of water will depend on both the technique to pack the sand and the type of sand itself. You can also find more incredible sand sculptures from a previous post. Check out 33 awesome sand sculptures after the jump.
