Shark found in Lake Michigan

Rich Fasi was boating in West Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan near Traverse City, Michigan on Wednesday. He saw some tangled fishing equipment floating by and started pulling it from the water:
“I could see a fish down there about three feet down, but the last thing I expected was a shark on the end,” Fasi said.
There aren’t any witnesses, but Fasi, of Traverse City, said he pulled the roughly 2-foot shark from the bay about 100 yards west of Clinch Park Marina at about 5 p.m. He found the shark in about 25 feet of water, he said. It was dead, but wasn’t frozen.
“I could wiggle its tail, pry open its mouth, look at its teeth,” he said. “It didn’t look like it had any decomposition.”
Fasi threw the fish in his freezer and called the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
It appears that Fasi’s catch was a blacktip shark. More on the story when you go to this link.

The house is supported by a mango tree, and was conceived by Mr. Singh on a bet that he could maintain property value of a certain terrain without the need for chopping its fruit trees.

Caesarea Aqueduct, Photo by Michael Melford

If you haven’t discovered it yet, National Geographic magazine’s Our Shot is one of the best daily photo gallery sites on the web. Their photos are always fantastic and cover a wide berth breadth of subjects.
Case in point, this photo of an aqueduct built by King Herod during the first century B.C. to carry water from a lake across 17 miles of desert into the ancient city of Caesarea (present day Israel). Michael Melford took this fantastic shot by moonlight.

Rotating Grid Optical Illusion

This is pretty trippy: David OReilly found that a large grid rotating at a certain speed will appear to group itself into smaller grids, rotating independently.
It appears the persistence of vision effect overrides our knowledge that this is a single grid and divides it up optically. This only seems to work on a uniform grid (I also had interesting results with a brick formation), but the effect is lost when using a checkered texture.
