Point of view of a mouse being dangerously stalked. Carved a hole in a cardboard box and put camera inside. The main difficulty was not the lighting (a couple of desk lamps set around the box), but getting Manly here to cooperate by luring him with a string going into the box (seen out of focus). This 2-Year-Old Kid Knows More About Space Than You Do

This adorable little astronomer knows the solar system. He loves magnetic fields and can recognize Neil deGrasse Tyson. He knows that Pluto is a dwarf planet. He knows the names of Pluto's moons. It's like a supernova of cute. LINK: Youtube

The video is the runner up in the American Museum of Natural History's Rose Center Anniversary Video Contest, a competition that enlisted science-junkies to make videos about the stories that inspired them most. Clearly this little fellow finds space very inspirational.

The Smithsonian's Annual Photography Contest

For seven years, The Smithsonian magazine has held an annual photography contest. The five categories are Altered Images, the Natural World, Americana, Travel, and People. Pictured above is Laurie McAndish King’s winning submission in the Natural World category. It’s a photograph of a tiny frog hiding in the leaves of a plant.

King was experimenting with a new camera in a local Mendocino County garden when a frog paused for a moment on the leaves of a nearby plant. She snapped; it hopped. “I’ve gone halfway around the world looking for new experiences,” she says. “This photo will always remind me of the beauty in my own backyard.”

The organizers didn’t realize that Moscow is not the best place to held such an event because of unstable spring climate. Usually those contests are being conducted in the regions where the rains are not so often, but in this place and this time of the years rains just can go daily, so it’s big pity they didn’t last long. Digital Open Winner: Teen Creates a Robot Shop

Institute for the Future teamed up with Sun Microsystems and Boing Boing Video to co-host the Digital Open, an online tech expo for teens 17 and under around the world.

In today's episode, you'll meet Brennon Williams, a teen from Hillsborough, CA, who created an online robotics store for beginners:

The BW Science Labs Store is an idea I've had for a while now, but it has taken a lot of work to get it up and running. There is currently 1 kit available, the Vivus the Robot kit. I"ve seen a lot of those really low-quality $20 robots where you clap your hands and they twitch, and I've seen $400 robots with a great deal of functionality. I wanted to make something in between, and that's exactly what Vivus is. During prototyping I wanted to make a "real robot", one that was autonomous and could truly act on its own, while trying to keep the cost down as well.
