Cirrate Octopus

(YouTube link)

Combine a graceful sea creature in its natural environment with some ethereal music and you’ve got this video. From the YouTube link:

Making a rare appearance just in time for Halloween, this ghostly-looking orange cirrate octopus was recently observed by MBARI’s ROV Doc Ricketts swimming over the Taney Seamounts. These finned octopuses belong to an order of animals called Cirrata named for the presence of hair-like structures called ‘cirri’ which may aid these animals in the capture of food.

Mash-up video culled from 99 classic albums

Video remix producers/DJs Eclectic Method are the creators of the
secret intro video to the “musical costume” second set of Phish’s 2009 Halloween performance
in Indio, CA. Taking Phish’s brilliant viral “99 Albums” online promotion to the next level, the London born/Brooklyn-based trio sourced and remixed content from all 99 albums, and remixed them into a single, profound, beat-driven AV collage, screened just before the band took the stage to perform the coveted “last record left alive.” LINK, Via: Vimeo

A superb cut-up. "Eclectic Method Goes Phish"

Automated Halloween Coffin

The Prop Master shows us how this cool Automated Halloween Coffin works. The coffin was made some plywood that was painted black, a skeleton of PVC pipe, a Halloween mask, an old suit and a sprinkler valve. Notice how the PVC has slip point that allow the system to pivot to raise a portion of the skeleton. There are also a few non-essentials that were added to enhance the scare effect, some speakers and a sound chip allow for some spooky zombie voices and the red flood light illuminates the zombie as he raises. Watch the video below to see how sit up fast the action is! LINK

How to create a realistic burn using makeup

Although an extensive burn makeup can be achieved with prosthetics, there is a great deal which can be done with directly applied effects materials and colour, removing the need to sculpt and make moulds.

This is great if you are doing it for a one-off such as for a Hallowen party, a makeup test, building a portfolio or simply to create effective makeups without using a lot of expensive kit. This tutorial covers a simple approach to creating a burn injury using silk, gelatine and colour.

LED Ghosties for Halloween

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories has instructions for making simple ghost decorations with cool LED eyes!

You can make these simple LED ghosties (based on LED throwies) from a soda bottle, a couple of LEDs and batteries, string, and a scrap of fabric. Hang them in your trees, your haunted house, or in your porch for Halloween. They look especially excellent because the eyes seem to float in mid-air behind the fabric.
