Movable Type Rubik's Cube

Yu-Hsiang “Shaun” Chung is an artist specializing in typography. He made a movable wooden Rubik’s Cube that can be used as a stamp:

Chinese has a long history with the printing. In 105 AD, Cai Lun invented the paper. In 200 AD, the Chinese invention of Woodblock printing produced the world’s first print culture. In 1040, Bi Sheng invented the first known movable type technology. Therefore, I want to use a Chinese text for my cube. The text I used for my cube is called “Three Character Classic.” It is a traditional Chinese text that teaches young children to be a good person in the society. The text is written in triplets of characters for easy memorization, which is perfect for the cube since the cube is 3 by 3 on every side. The text is written by Wang Yinglin during the Song Dynasty, so I used a font called “Song,” which is correspond to the Song Dynasty when a distinctive printed style of regular script was developed.

The Rubik's Fix - Cubes, Spheres & More

Getting back to the biggest, but still talking about using the puzzle as the medium in incredible artistic creation, we come to the works of the aptly-named Cube Works Studio, who haven't just created cube-portraits of Marilyn, Warhol's famous tomato soup can, David Bowie, and Van Gogh's Starry Night, Chairman Mao, da Vinci's Last Supper, and many others but with their recreation of Michelangelo's Creation of Man they are now the Guinness Record holders for the largest artwork ever created using Rubik's Cubes. RuBot II - The Rubik's cube solving robot

This is the new version of RuBot by Pete Redmond from Dublin, Ireland. It's very different to the prototype but it has to be the coolest looking robot solver ever. RuBot II set a new Guinness world Record in Jan 2009.

There are cameras in the eyes of the head that scan the cube before the pneumatic arms solve it. It usually solves the Cube in about 35 seconds (not including the scan) no matter how much it is mixed up. LINK: Youtube

There is another video I liked but there was no embed for it. Here is the LINK: Youtube

Glass Rubik's Cube

Sure, this glass Rubik's Cube is pretty, but is it really wise to make one of the most frustrating puzzles ever out of something so breakable? LINK, [Walyou Via: Geekologie]

12th grader builds robot to solve his own Rubik's cube

Twelfth grade student [Andrius Ĺ utas] (as he says: computer science is my lifestyle, electronics - hobby...) have build his own bot for Rubik's cube solving and does not hesitate to share secrets of the build (i. e. schematics, CAD design, source code). It's not very fast but does the job pretty well and the simplicity of the design looks damn good. The solving algorithm in question is layer-by-layer (same as a average Human would use). And communication with movement of "claws" is based on microcontroller (atmel avr).
