Sarcastic Fringeheads
The Sarcastic Fringehead is a ferocious fish which has a large mouth and aggressive territorial behavior. When two fringeheads have a territorial battle, they wrestle by pressing their huge mouths against each other, as if they were kissing. This allows them to determine which is the larger fish and so dominance is established. LINK: Youtube

Andy Komornicki, a cargo agent at London's Heathrow airport, has landed a new world record 91 lb mirror carp known as The Scar.
Andy Komornicki and his new world record carp at 91lb.
Despite its size, Andy took only 10 to15 minutes to land the fish. It's hard to describe how I felt, I was just so elated, the British Airways employee recalled. LINK: Youtube

FOUR-LEGGED FISH
“Perhaps he had just got tired of swimming. For this odd-looking fish looks like he’s just decided to head out for an evening stroll along the ocean floor. But while it looks like he has sprouted legs, this angler fish’s limbs are just the fins he uses to balance himself on the sea bed. The fish rests on the ocean floor as he prepares to make a dart for any passing prey he has lured towards him using the protrusion above his mouth.” w/ photos. LINK

Creepy 'Human Fish' Can Live 100 Years
The olm (Proteus anguinus), a foot-long salamander nicknamed 'the human fish' because of its fleshy skin and tubular shape, is certainly a strange-looking animal. This animal is most notable for its adaptations to a life of complete darkness in its underground habitat. The olm's eyes are undeveloped, leaving it blind, while its other senses, particularly those of smell and hearing, are acutely developed.
But beneath the surface, they're even weirder: Olms can live for 100 years, far longer than any other amphibian. Scientists have no idea why. LINK: The Presurfer

A Day At The John G. Shedd Aquarium
The John G. Shedd Aquarium is an indoor public aquarium in Chicago, Illinois in the United States that opened on May 30, 1930. The aquarium contains over 25,000 fish, and was for some time the largest indoor aquarium in the world with 5,000,000 US gallons (19,000,000 l) of water. The Shedd Aquarium was the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection. The aquarium has 2 million annual visitors; it was the most visited aquarium in the U.S. in 2005, and in 2007, it surpassed the Field Museum as the most popular cultural attraction in Chicago. It contains 1500 species including fish, marine mammals, birds, snakes, amphibians, and insects. Head here for more info: sheddaquarium.org. LINK

Watch This Autonomous Mecha Fish Navigate a Kiddie Pool
As you'll see at about 50 seconds in, Mecha Fish hates human hands. When some poor fool sticks his hand in the pool, the fish reacts suddenly, changing direction to avoid (eating) it.
The fish was just one of several exhibits on display in Warsaw this past Friday at an event hosted by the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements called "Night of the Robots." [Gizmodo Poland]. LINK, Via: Youtube

Venomous Catfish Species Uncovered
“Some catfish species have been known to be venomous — including a few dangerous enough to kill a human. But scientists knew little about how common venomous catfish are or how the fish produce and deliver their venom. Turns out, the ability is more widespread than anyone realized extending to about half of the more than 3,000 known catfish species, according to a new report. For the study, biologist Jeremy Wright studied the venom and microscopic tissue structures of 158 catfish species. Based on known relationships among those species, the University of Michigan graduate student concluded that at least 1,250 to 1,625 catfish species are likely venomous. The explosion in known venomous catfish species, however, doesn’t mean you have anything to fear, even if you’re an inveterate noodler — especially in North America.” LINK

Bubble Eye Fish
“The Bubble Eye normally has an evenly curved back that lacks a dorsal fin. The pair of large pouches of skin attached under its eyes jiggle as it swims. Bubble Eyes have metallic scales and they are similar to the celestial eye goldfish. The eyes of the Bubble Eye goldfish are normal in the young fry, but will start to develop eye bladders three months after hatching. Like ranchu, the bubble eye goldfish lacks in dorsal fin and has a double tail. They normally grow up to 6 to 8 inches in length.” LINK

Most Diabolical Fish On Earth
Image: thiiissideup
That cavernous mouth extends right around the Anglerfish’s head, its jaws armed with long, pointed, inward-folding teeth that allow easy access to the stomach but no escape from the mouth. This machine-like predator can expand its jaw and stomach to a huge size, enabling it to gulp down prey even bigger than itself. It’s probably a good thing for us that this fiend, also known as the sea devil, is found at depths of 3,300-6,600 ft. As far as we’re concerned, it can stay there. LINK

A fish with a transparent head
Macropinna macrostoma (common name "barreleyes) can rotate its eyes to a vertical position; because its head is transparent, it can then look through its head to see predators or prey above itself without moving its body. LINK
