This reporter seems to find himself at the right place at the right time. He is reporting on a marijuana farm that the police are torching to get rid of the crop. Luckily for him he was standing down wind and his entire world was hot boxed. LINK: Youtube

Raw Video - Detroit Fires Leap From Home to Home
Firefighters in Detroit, Michigan, grappled with 85 fires in a four-hour period Tuesday night, officials said.
"A lot of these fires were due to high winds and downed wires," said Karen Dumas, a city spokeswoman.
There were no reports of deaths or injuries, she said.
"We had winds from 30-50 mph and have a number of downed power wires," said Detroit Fire Commissioner James Mack Jr. "We are attributing some of the fires to downed power wires which makes more fires with the wind being so strong."
Mack said that between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. the fire department responded to 140 calls for wires down before the evening outbreak.
Detroit firefighters received assistance from fire departments in the neighboring towns of Warren, Dearborn and Harper Woods.
"It's a matter of public safety," Dumas said. "We have enough resources to manage our daily demands, but that was an unusual and concentrated number of fires."
There also was at least one report of suspected arson associated with the fires, Mack said. A man in the city's northeast section is being questioned. LINK

Rare ‘fire tornado’ filmed in Brazil
A fire tornado caused by brush fires and strong winds has stopped motorway traffic as drivers in Brazil gawped at the rare phenomenon.
The whirlwind of flames burned through fields beside the road in the northwest city of Aracatuba in Sao Paulo state. But, as quickly as it appeared, the roaring twister fizzled down and just a smouldering line in the land remained.
The firestorm followed a drought which has led to brush fires across Brazil. Fire tornados, also known as fire whirls or fire devils, are rare and depend on certain air temperatures and currents to create a vertical, rotating column of air.
In 1923, a fire tornado ignited by the Great Kanto earthquake in Tokyo grew to the size of a large city and killed 38,000 people in 15 minutes. At the time most of the buildings in Japan were made from wood and fire spread from house to house, destroying the city. LINK, Via: Youtube

HOW TO MAKE A MINI S’MORES GRILL

"QUOTE" “I have my youngest son to thank for this Instructable. He wanted S’mores, but didn’t want the marshmallows put in the microwave. He wanted authentic, toasted-on-an-open-flame S’mores. When I told him that I did not really want to fire up the grill just to make a couple S’mores, he suggested a mini grill. BRILLIANT!” LINK

Fire engines too heavy for roads

Five fire engines in South Yorkshire and the Humber region have been sitting unused since they were bought in 2007.
Each Combined Aerial Rescue Pump (CARP) cost the fire services more than half a million pounds.
However, the vehicles have not yet been used because they are too heavy to be driven legally on British roads.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service blamed "a supplier's cock-up" for the situation.
It'll be on the BBC iPlayer, though I think only in the UK, sometime on Monday. LINK

World's first fire-powered lava lamp

'If you buy my lamps, you won't need to buy drugs' said Edward Craven-Walker, inventor of the lava lamp and founder of lava lamp purveyor Mathmos.
The psychedelic, hypnotic, addictive nature of lava lamps may go some way to explaining why they exploded in the 60s and 70s, and are still popular with students today.
Mathmos' designers have been continuously tweaking and updating the original 1963 lamp, and their latest offering is a world first - a fire-powered lava lamp.
The new Fireflow lava lamp range features two new styles, each in a variety of colours, but instead of plugging them into the mains you simply slot a humble tea light in the bottom and sit back to watch the fluorescent melted wax float around inside.
Both lamps are available from the Mathmos website.

US Army Rail Gun Fires for the First Time

Not to be less than the US Navy, the Army has tested their own electromagnetic rail gun, firing several times at Dugway Proving Grounds. Manufacturer General Atomics calls it Blitzer. I call it Hey Enemy Tank, You Have Been Blended.
Blitzer will continue testing through 2010, until they fire "tactically relevant aerodynamic rounds." That means shells designed to obliterate enemy tanks, bunkers, and anything that moves on the ground.

Fire in Santa Clarita (Sylmar Sayre Fire)
These time lapse and realtime clips were shot Saturday evening, 11-15-2008 near Placerita Canyon Road and Sierra Highway, looking at the fires to the south and east. The "shooting star" objects in some of the sequences are flares, which are being used by the firefighters to start "backfires" just ahead of the main fireline, in order to burn the fuel before the main fire arrives. These backfires can normally used only on the upwind side of a fire. :-). LINK: Youtube

Amazing Chain Reaction - The Way Things Go
IN THIS SCENE: Fire is the instigator in this section of their chain reaction.
ABOUT THIS FILM: In 1987 Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss built a enormous, precarious structure 100 feet long out of common items. Using fire, water, gravity, and chemistry they create a mind-blowing chain reaction of physical and chemical interactions and precisely crafted chaos. LINK: Youtube
