Octopus Table

This Octopus Table by artist Isaac Krauss is made out of bronze and pure awesomeness. Isaac and his collaborator Alex Friend put 1,500 hours and about $5,000 to build the 8-armed table. LINK: Neatorama

Octopus Chair

So you’re looking for just the right chair to accent your demon skin rug. Perhaps something tasteful and subtle that conveys your cosmopolitan demeanor. Well, Spanish artist Maximo Riera has just the chair for you. It’s the first of a series of fifteen works designed to resemble walruses, beetles, rhinoceroses, and other animals.

Cirrate Octopus

(YouTube link)

Combine a graceful sea creature in its natural environment with some ethereal music and you’ve got this video. From the YouTube link:

Making a rare appearance just in time for Halloween, this ghostly-looking orange cirrate octopus was recently observed by MBARI’s ROV Doc Ricketts swimming over the Taney Seamounts. These finned octopuses belong to an order of animals called Cirrata named for the presence of hair-like structures called ‘cirri’ which may aid these animals in the capture of food.

Adorable baby octopuses, living happy and free

A Giant Pacific Octopus mates only once and when it has done so, it has already begun dying. The mother will lay her eggs in her den and stay there and never leave.. not even to eat.. once the eggs hatch, she is allowed to leave.. but only in spirit.. her body must stay behind as a reminder of her ultimate sacrifice. LINK: Vimeo

Note: This starts out somewhat depressingly, with the body of a female octopus that died after reproducing—as all octopuses, male and female, do. But it quickly gets past that, and on to the wee, baby octopuses, floating around the sea. Turn off the sound to block out the sad song, and focus on that.

Is a Nine-Tentacled Octopus a Nonopus?

Last fall, a seafood shop owner in Marugame, Japan spotted this rare Octopus with nine tentacles. While he apparently boiled and sold the oddity to a “lucky customer”, I think he may have generated more marketing appeal if he had tried to pit it against the Henry the Hexapus or had it try out for Gimme Gimme Octopus. The octopus who loves his Mr Potato Head

Louis the octopus clearly thinks two heads are better than one when it comes to toys.
The 1.8m-wide (6ft) creature is so attached to Mr Potato Head that he turns aggressive when aquarium staff try to remove it from his tank.
The giant Pacific octopus was given the toy for Christmas and has even learned to dig out food hidden in a secret box at the back of it.
He's fascinated by it,' said Matt Slater, of the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay, Cornwall. 'He attacks the net we use to fish the toy out every time we try to take it away.'
Mr Slater added: 'Octopuses are very intelligent and they like to be stimulated and busy.' LINK
