Watermelon carving
[Vimeo - Link]
Vid Nikolic posted a time-lapse video of himself carving a watermelon. The design starts out simple and builds into an impressively intricate display. The carving took about 40 minutes to complete.

Death Star Melons

People do some strange things when they have time to kill. Making the Death Star out of a cantaloupe or watermelon is one of the cooler (but still ever so slightly strange) things.
You were told as a child to never play with your food but, to be frank, sometimes when a cool idea suddenly hits, the temptation is just too strong. So, you take a watermelon. You just can’t help noticing that it already kinda looks like the Death Star. It doesn’t look quite right on a plate, though. Time to experiment.

Watermelon Carving Art

Hotel chef Takashi began carving melons in 2001 after being inspired while on holiday in Thailand. He has carved flowers, figurines and even a portrait.
“Anyone can learn to carve the melons and all it takes is a little patience. Because watermelons are colorful they are attractive and because it is one of the bigger fruits it allows me to make more powerful and interesting creations”.
Takashi often puts his work on display and the sculptures last about two days unless they are specially frozen….. In which case they can last for up to two weeks. LINK
Those works just look amazing… to see more, click here to visit Takashi’s website.
