Raw Video: Giraffe Born at Iowa Zoo

Staff at a Des Moines, Iowa, zoo captured stunning video of the birth of a baby female giraffe last month. The giraffe was 5 foot, 9 inches tall and weighed in a 147 pounds. Her name is Sabra, which in Swahili means patience. (Oct. 8). LINK: Youtube

Heavy Rains Cause Iowa Dam to Fail

Emergency management officials in eastern Iowa say the Lake Delhi dam has failed and water is flowing over a berm. The area about 180 miles northeast of Des Moines is a weekend retreat with about 900 residents. (July 24)2010. LINK: Youtube

Korn Mourns Death of Slipknot Bassist Paul Gray 2010 Interview

Korn mourns the death of Paul Gray, bassist for the band Slipknot.

On May 24th, 2010 Slipknot bass player Paul Gray was found dead in a Des Moines, IA hotel room.

Gray had been a member of Slipknot from the beginning and was a key part of their transformation into a metal icon. To date Slipknot has released 5 best selling albums and sold over 14 million records worldwide.

The band is currently on a one year hiatus.

As a child Gray grew up in Des Moines, IA and was considered by friends to be a caring human being who didn't forget his roots. He still resided in his hometown and leaves behind a wife and unborn child.

Paul Gray was 38 years old.

Numa Numa Guy Conducts MSU Marching Band Halftime Show

Gary Brolsma (aka the Numa Numa Guy) joins in during the MSU Marching Band "Technology" Halftime show. The show had 3 concepts, the iPod(U2 song), the Cell Phone(famous ringtone melodies), and YouTube. Gary stepped in on the YouTube part of the show and conducted "Dragostea din tei" (the Numa Numa Song). This was during the MSU v Iowa halftime show on 10/24/09. LINK: Youtube

Minas Tirith Matchstick Model

A couple of years ago, Iowa artist Patrick Acton built a model of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School completely out of matchsticks. His latest matchstick project is even bigger. He’s building a model of the fortress Minas Tirith from the Lord of the Rings trilogy! Acton expects the model to be completed in 2009. Link, Via: Neatorama
