Man Tries to Build Telegraph from Scratch

Jamie O’Shea is a conceptual artist. We’ve previously featured his bed, which is designed to be used standing up. More recently, he became interested in the role of knowledge in developing our technological civilization. Is knowledge alone enough, or are we dependent upon tools made by others? To find out, O’Shea decided to build a telegraph completely from scratch — including the tools — using only what he found in a New Jersey forest. At the link, you can watch a video of his attempt.

Wood eye blink art

In a peaceful forest, a tree falls. Nobody sees it, is it beautiful? If that tree is found, can it be glorious? Or is glory found within the painting upon the wood? Wood Eye blink art? Art is in the eye of the beholder, but it can be shown on many different canvases. A canvas of wood can give more options to enhance the art. It gives it body along with beauty, shape to augment the painting, and function to the fashion. It is no longer just a painting on the wall, but a living piece of art.

On first blink, it's a hunk of wood; dead in the forest, laying there, with no purpose.

On second blink, the wood has a shape. Smooth and contemporary, a new canvas.

On third blink, it is ART! LINK: Youtube

Return Of The Wandering Warblers

Each Spring the woodlands of America resound to the birdsong of returning visitors. Warblers - fifty three species of them all in all - arrive and right now is the best time to see them as they migrate.

Their arrival heralds a dazzling dash of color as the greenness of American forests is peppered as if with the ravishing hues of thousands of tiny precious stones. LINK: The Presurfer

Top 7 Incredible Sunken Forests

“Whether viewed from above or below the surface of the water, whether they are alive or dead, they stand like apparitions, almost supernatural in appearance by dint of the fact that they should not be there. Trees, common sense tells us, were designed to climb into the air rooted in solid ground, not water, and they certainly weren’t meant to be found submerged beneath lakes, slowly rotting away like skeletons of their former selves. // LINK

8 Of The Best Treehouses In The World

Tree houses are the only solution for building of eco-friendly facilities in some remote forest-areas. The wildlife, climate and illumination on ground-level in areas of dense close-canopy forest is not suitable for human habitation.

There are over 20 architectural businesses in Europe and North America that specialize in building treehouses of various degrees of permanence and sophistication, from children's play structures to fully-functioning homes. LINK

Clearcut Forest Screened from the Road

George Steinmetz is one of my favorite new finds on the Net. He specializes in taking aerial photographs while piloting a motorized paraglider.

Check out the photograph above, of a clear-cut forest in the Olympic Peninsula, Washington. If you were driving, you’d probably not notice the clearing at all! And that, my friend, is the pictorial definition of a façade.
