Rimino - A Human Touch on Mobile Experience
Project Rimino redefines mobile experience through human factors research and design thinking. Informed by human experience, the project is guided by both observational and experimental design research methods.
The Rimino concept is an E-paper mobile device with a user interface inspired by print posters. Historically, as technology has progressed, devices have become more conspicuous. Rimino challenges this trend and presents the alternative: technology that is more integrated and more sensitive to the human experience.

3G Network Service Now Available on Mount Everest
Until recently, people in the Mount Everest area were restricted to satellite phones and a voice-only mobile network. But a Nepalese telecommunications company has now extended 3G wireless service to Mount Everest:
The coverage would reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, company head Pasi Koistinen, said.
He added that this had not been tested yet.
The 3G network will help climbers and trekkers stay in touch with their families and trip organisers, Mr Koistinen said.
It will also enable them to receive weather reports and safety information while they are climbing.

Soft mobile morphing robots
iRobot is developing a soft mobile morphing robots, designed to crawl through tiny holes and cracks.
Researchers from iRobot and the University of Chicago discussed their palm-sized soft robot, known as a chemical robot, or chembot, at the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems yesterday. It's "the first demonstration of a completely soft, mobile robot using jamming as an enabling technology," they write in a paper presented at the conference.
The concept of "jamming skin enabled locomotion" is explained quite nicely in the video. The polymer used for the bot's stretchy skin is off-the-shelf silicone two-part rubber. LINK, Via: Youtube

Mobile Tree House
It’s a house carved out of a solid tree trunk! This astonishing mobile tree house started off life as a mobile information centre for Forestry Tasmania. It has recently sold on e-bay for AU$12,000 where it grabbed the attention of the online world. Given the inside is a bit grotty, but with TLC imagine what a perfect spare room, library or playroom this structure would make. The possibilities are endless. LINK, Via: Neatorama

Scary Mobile Dexterous Social Robot
The MDS (Mobile Dexterous Social) robot was designed and built in collaboration with the MIT Media Lab's Personal Robots Group, UMASS Amherst's Laboratory for Perceptual Robotics, Xitome Design, and Meka Robotics. It illustrates the robot's expressive range of movement using scripted animations and pre-recorded speech. LINK, Via: Youtube
