The 21 Greatest Lego Collectible Minifigures

image credit Lego struck gold when they started releasing collectible minifigures 1978. They have become hugely successful, with over 3.7 billion produced in both limited edition waves and in blind packaging. These figures are highly detailed and imaginative, and include very specific character types, many that wouldn't otherwise fit in standard Lego sets. The selection has been amazing and revolutionized the very concept of the ever-popular Lego minifigure. Here are the 21 best collectible minifigures that Lego has released thus far.

Rimino - A Human Touch on Mobile Experience

Project Rimino redefines mobile experience through human factors research and design thinking. Informed by human experience, the project is guided by both observational and experimental design research methods.

The Rimino concept is an E-paper mobile device with a user interface inspired by print posters. Historically, as technology has progressed, devices have become more conspicuous. Rimino challenges this trend and presents the alternative: technology that is more integrated and more sensitive to the human experience.

The classic side rails and the keys together form part of the perfect nostalgic keyboard in the list. LINK

Amazing iPad Animations!

“5 static images on an iPad are brought to life by passing a transparent sheet with black lines over the screen. These animations use the same concept as my other videos. The only difference is, the images in this video are on a screen instead of printed on a piece of paper. Ever since I first created my first animated optical illusion years ago I have always wondered if the concept would work on a screen. Sure enough! It does. This took about a week to produce. Everything had to be absolutely exact for the effect to work. I used photoshop to created the 2D animations and Lightwave 3D to create the 3D animations.” — brusspup. LINK, Via: Youtube

The samchillian - a musical instrument based on relativity

An electronic musical instrument which takes Leon Gruenbaum's samchillian concept and defines a possible product design for it. The challenge was to make an aesthetic, ergonomic, musical product which could be used on stage by a musician.

The samchillian is a new type of musical instrument which uses the concept of relative notes, rather then fix pitches (as in a piano). LINK: Youtube

TOP 10 SCULPTURES MADE FROM HUBCAPS

“Hubcaps as art is not a brand new concept. But these hubcap sculptures by Ptolemy Elrington are definitely something different. These bad ass metal sculptures look like deadly robots built by other robots to create a giant robot army meant to destroy the human race. Ptolemy gets hubcaps from the side of the road, friends and family and even strangers.” w/ photos. LINK

Rain Drum Umbrella

There's an array of unique umbrellas floating around the design industry, but none more entertaining than this concept.

The rain drum is an umbrella that has several different areas that are matched with a specific drum-like sound output. This means that whenever it rains, depending on where the rain lands on the umbrella, a unique sound will be played. LINK: The Presurfer

Digital Magazine

The concept aims to capture the essence of magazine reading, which
people have been enjoying for decades: an engaging and unique reading
experience in which high-quality writing and stunning imagery build up
immersive stories.

The concept uses the power of digital media to create a rich and
meaningful experience, while maintaining the relaxed and curated
features of printed magazines. It has been designed for a world in
which interactivity, abundant information and unlimited options could
be perceived as intrusive and overwhelming. LINK: Vimeo

Off-Road Car Concept

Could this concept car be a glimpse into the future of high-speed, off-road rally racing? Designer Klaud Wasiak thinks so, and has created the Hussar Dakar Rally Concept to show just how far these vehicles can go. The Hassar Dakar is inspired by Polish winged cavalry uniforms of the 18th century, giving this vehicle a dramatic rear wing structure that has both aesthetic and functional qualities. Inside, the driver is seated at a central position, with a lower, tiered section with two seats for a navigator and engineer. That engineer maintains and controls the non-driven parts of the vehicle, including those wings which provide aerodynamic boosts as well as kinetic energy generation from movement.” LINK

High Concept; The Verdandi.

The Verdandi project started at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, intended to investigate why fewer women than men ride motorcycles, and what can be done to attract female users and customers to the motorcycle market. The majority of motorcycle models are poorly adjusted to women, and those which are not commonly lack the easy rider attitude that is often sought after by women as well as men. The concept was intended to change this trend, in designing a vehicle that is practical and conscious without compromising its modern biker expression. The result was a full-scale model, displaying novel design qualities and conceptual solutions within areas that women particularly emphasized in the studies; namely safety, low environmental impact, comfort and ergonomics, storage and identity. Desk Lamp Rotates To Become a Light Box For Artists

If you dabble in art and design, you will immediately see the benefit of a lamp that can rotate and adjust positions to become a light box. Sketch Lamp

The appropriately titled "Sketch Lamp" is the brainchild of Ninna Kapadia and Hung-Ming Chen and, for the moment, it is still in the concept stage. Hopefully, that will change soon because light boxes are annoying, cumbersome beasts. [Ninna Kapadaia Via: DVICE], Via: Gizmodo

The Great Escape Pod

Escape pods are nothing new to our collective consciousness. Hollywood writers have used this concept to save presidents from crashing planes to landing R2-D2 and C-3PO on Tatooine. Now designer Alp Germaner (coolest name today) has dreamt up an escape pod that may not take you off planet but will certainly take you off road like never before. The “Peugeot Capsule” is a one person, off-road, electric vehicle inspired by the KLR 650 motorcycle. Complete with integrated GPS, LCD screens that double as rear-view mirrors, full time internet connectivity (for jungle porn of course) and comes with enough luggage space to make a weekend of it. Cycling into the Future: 15 Crazy Concept Bicycles

Riding a bike facing forward is boring. Or at least, so says Michael Killian, the software engineer who decided that what the world needs is a sideways bicycle that uses the same body movements as a snowboard. It has a unicycle seat and little handlebars on either side. It’s not for everyone – Killian says only 6 out of 10 people are able to master it. LINK
