Man Makes Tiny Guns out of Corn Stalks

83-year old Leo Clark makes tiny model guns out of corn stalks. Some of them feature moving parts and can be loaded with tiny cartridges, also made completely out of corn. They’re incredibly detailed, right down to the crosshairs in the scopes. You can watch a local news video about Clark at the link. Note that the news story appears to be at least three years old.

Man Builds Matchstick Models of Every Ship in the Royal Navy Since 1945

Phillip Warren’s hobby for the past 62 years has been building models of warships out of matchsticks. So far, he’s used 650,000 matches to build 400 ship models.

The master modeller, from Brandford, Dorset, has created every ship built in the Royal Navy since 1945, as well as 60 other ships from the US navy and other impressive floating fortresses from 18 other nations. One of the largest ships in his collection is the famous USS Nimitz, the largest aircraft carrier in the world.

Throghout his career as a ship model builder, Phillip Waren created over 400 individual ships, as well as 1,200 airplane models that make his aircraft carriers look more real. The average ship in his collection is made using around 1,500 matchsticks and takes about a month to complete, but for his larger creations he used over 5,000 matchsticks and 200 wooden boxes. These took him about a year to complete. All in all, Phillip Waren used around 650,000 matchsticks, to create his entire fleet.

Wonderful classic monster sculptures

Matt Staggs sez, "This young sculptor's work is amazing. Just check out the detailing. He apparently specializes in the Universal Monsters, particularly the Gill Man. He said that he was inspired by the old Aurora models."

Hyper-Detailed Airplane Models

(Photo: George F. Lee, Honolulu Star-Bulletin)

Retired dentist Young C. Park used aluminum to create incredibly detailed, realistic models of a Corsair and a P-51 Mustang. His airframes incorporate rods and pulley action, just like the real thing.

Using a tweezers, the controls can be moved. All cables and linkages are in place to work the wing control surfaces as well. Young Park has since carved a pilot’s face and hands from solid aluminum and built an articulated pilot to sit in the cockpit.

Norman Rockwell's Photo Realism

Norman Rockwell was a 20th century American painter and illustrator. His works enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States, where Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life scenarios he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over more than four decades.

Norman Rockwell's rosy illustrations of small town American life looked so photographic because his method was to copy photographs that he conceived and meticulously directed, working with various photographers and using friends and neighbors as his models. LINK: The Presurfer

High Concept; The Verdandi.

The Verdandi project started at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, intended to investigate why fewer women than men ride motorcycles, and what can be done to attract female users and customers to the motorcycle market. The majority of motorcycle models are poorly adjusted to women, and those which are not commonly lack the easy rider attitude that is often sought after by women as well as men. The concept was intended to change this trend, in designing a vehicle that is practical and conscious without compromising its modern biker expression. The result was a full-scale model, displaying novel design qualities and conceptual solutions within areas that women particularly emphasized in the studies; namely safety, low environmental impact, comfort and ergonomics, storage and identity.
