Monstrous footprints of the mysterious creatures

Since the prehistoric times, our planet has been home to so many mysterious creatures. While some vanished out of existence completely, others are still there peeping through those remote haunts of extinction. They keep on reminding us that their tale, the Yetis’ and the dinosaurs in particular, is not yet over. Giant Seabird's Fossilized Skull Found In Peru

A well-preserved 10-million-year fossil cranium of a large, toothed seabird was found in Peru's southern Ica region, a spokesman for Peru's Museum of Natural History said yesterday.

The skull of the giant bird with teeth, measuring 16 inches was found a few months ago by paleontologist Mario Urbina in a rock strata. The fossil is of the prehistoric seabird Pelagornithidae, which had wing spans of up to 20 feet and a large bill with tooth-like projections. LINK

U.S. archeologists find possible mastodon carving on Lake Michigan rock

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - They aren't certain, but underwater archeologists say they may have discovered a boulder with a prehistoric carving in Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay.

The granite rock has markings that resemble a mastodon - an elephant-like creature that once inhabited parts of North America - with what could be a spear in its side, say divers who have seen it.

They came across the boulder at a depth of about 12 metres while searching for shipwrecks in June, said Mark Holley, a scientist with the Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve Council.
