Gatling guns have been the first firearms with a firing rate close to modern machine guns. Their principle is easy: A set of rotating barrels is turned by cranking a wheel, with one barrel after the other firing a round when it is in shooting position. This makes them technically and legally a repeating gun, not a full auto one - but it is close enough.
The Slingshot Channel took the challenge to design a rubber powered version of Mr. Gatling's great invention. And here it is: Eight 20 mm balls, on their way to the target in less than half a second. The theoretical firing rate is 960 rounds per minute, slightly faster than the popular M16 assault rifle.
The video also shows how you can fire single shots with the weapon. LINK: Youtube

Snowball Slingshot
Here I am, using my arm to throw, like a sucker. Behold the manliest snowball thrower around, the Snowball Slingshot from Hammacher Schlemmer. Now you can destroy any neighboorhood child who gets to close to your house, or morelikely, your van down by the river.
“This is the slingshot that hurls snowballs up to 60′, providing a long-range tactical advantage on winter battlefields. A softball-sized snowball placed into the slingshot’s muzzle is drawn back when its handle-powered by medical-grade elastic tubing-is pulled back. Releasing the handle launches the snowball at opposing forces, helping to facilitate their hasty withdrawal or surrender. Its superior range also provides indirect fire opportunities, such as shooting over the crest of a hill unseen. Made of durable, polypropylene/styrene-based plastic that withstands the rigors of winter play.”

Sniper Sets World Distance Record With 8,120 Foot Kill - Diggnation Daily
It was silent but deadly. A British sniper set a world sharpshooting record by taking out two Taliban soldiers in Afghanistan from more than a mile and a half away. To put it into American terms, the distance was just about from the Statue of Liberty to Battery Park. Even crazier, a shot from that distance has no visible source and no audible shot. LINK: Youtube

Goose Picked the Right Garden
A Canada goose landed in a garden in Toms River, New Jersey with an illegal hunting arrow stuck through its chest. The garden happened to belong to retired veterinarian Bernard Levine. Dr. Levine captured the goose and removed the 26-inch arrow, which was lodged six inches deep in the bird’s flesh. Then he took the goose to a bird rehabilitation center.
“This is a smart goose,” said Dr Levine, 82. “He happened to come into the yard of a veterinarian that could take care of him.”
After it recovered at The Raptor Trust, the goose was released last week into a stream in a wooded area on the trust’s property.
“It feels great to see him free and liberated, enjoying life the way a goose should,” Dr Levine said, as the goose preened and waded downstream.
Levine also removed several air rifle pellets from the goose. Link -Via: Arbroath, Via: Neatorama

The Gunshot Art of Walt Creel
Birmingham, Alabama-based artist Walt Creel creates illustrations by firing guns at aluminum sheets. He calls his collection “Deweaponizing the Gun”, and sees it as an exploration of guns in U.S., and in particular, Southern culture:
The terms gun and weapon are practically interchangeable. From hunting to war, self defense to target practice, the gun has been a symbol of power and destruction. Art and entertainment have both taken the same approach to he gun. Traveling Wild West shows had gunslingers that shot crude silhouettes and names, but this was done to illustrate the shooters prowess. Some artists have used high speed film to capture a bullet slicing through its target, while other artists have melted guns into sculptures.

Monty Python: 40 Years of Insanity
On October 5 1969 BBC One first broadcast a quirky little show called "Monty Python's Flying Circus." And now, for something completely different, the headlines in this gallery will have absolutely nothing to do with the photos and will instead be quotes from the show. Here's a shot of the boys imitating broadcaster Alan Whicker. LINK

Mohandas Karamchand Ghandhi
Yesterday, 60 years ago, Mohandas Gandhi was shot and killed while having his nightly public walk on the grounds of the Birla House in New Delhi. The assassin, Nathuram Godse, was a Hindu radical with links to the extremist Hindu Mahasabha, who held Gandhi responsible for weakening India by insisting upon a payment to Pakistan.
Gandhi was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement. He was the pioneer of resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience, firmly founded upon total non-violence which led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.
