Stunning time-lapse video of Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland, in action
Sean Stiegemeier, who created the video embedded above, writes,
"So I saw all of these mediocre pictures of that volcano in Iceland nobody can pronounce the name of, so I figured I should go and do better. But the flights to get over took forever as expected (somewhat). Four days after leaving I finally made it, but the weather was terrible for another four. Just before leaving it got pretty good for about a day and a half and this is what I managed to get".

Amazing Pictures of the Icelandic Volcano Eruption
The Daily Telegraph has compiled a 31-image slideshow of amazing photographs of the volcano currently erupting in Iceland. Scientists aren’t sure why electrical discharges are visible during some volcanic eruptions, but:
One theory is that that the spewing magma bubbles or particles of volcanic ash are themselves electrically charged, and by their motion create separately charged areas.

The world most dangerous places to live Because of Mother Nature
Ironically, this article was written before the recent earthquake in Haiti - and guess what?
Yes, you have guessed it already. Alongside places like Vesuvius (left) that most people would probably name when asked for a list of those places most dangerous to live because of Mother Nature, Haiti is already in there with a bullet at number four.
Find out the rest by clicking the link below. And please! Whatever country you live in, please make a donation, however small, to your nation's response to the earthquake crisis in Haiti. LINK

Underwater Volcanic Eruption On Film
Scientists witnessed the eruption of the deepest underwater volcano and caught the entire event on film for the first time - complete with molten lava and sulfur smoke clouds.
The volcanic eruption was filmed by a U.S. robotic submarine more than 1.2 kilometers (4,000 feet) below the surface of the Pacific Ocean near Samoa during an expedition in May this year. Scientists have been trying for 25 years to witness an underwater volcanic eruption, but this is the first time it has ever been caught on film. LINK: The Presurfer

The Buddhist Monastery that Rises 2,500ft from a Gigantic Lava Plug
Photo: exfordy
Rising majestically out of the plains of central Burma, 2,417 feet up in the air atop an ancient, sheer-sided volcanic plug, the Buddhist monastery of Popa Taungkalat surveys the surrounding scene. An amazing example of a human construction merged organically with its natural setting, Taung Kalat also draws thousands of pilgrims each year because of its great spiritual significance. LINK

BBC Team discovers 40 new species in 'Lost World'
Rats as big as cats, fanged frogs and grunting fish - they sound like something from a horror movie.
But, incredibly, there is a 'lost world' on a distant island where these nightmarish creatures really exist.
A team of scientists discovered the bizarre animals - and dozens of others - at a remote volcano in Papua New Guinea.
In the kilometre-deep crater of Mount Bosavi, they found a habitat teeming with life which has evolved in isolation since the volcano last erupted 200,000 years ago.
Among the new species was the the Bosavi Woolly Rat.
One of the biggest rats in the world, it measures just over 32 inches from nose to tail and weighs 3lb.
The silvery grey mammal has dense fur and its teeth suggest it has a largely vegetarian diet and probably builds nests in tree hollows or underground.
The Bosavi Woolly was discovered by a team from the BBC's natural history unit as they searched for new wildlife while filming the series Lost Land Of The Volcano.

Kilauea Volcano Erupts - Dramatic Video
Kilauea is the youngest and southeastern most volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. Topographically Kilauea appears as only a bulge on the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa, and so for many years Kilauea was thought to be a mere satellite of its giant neighbor, not a separate volcano. However, research over the past few decades shows clearly that Kilauea has its own magma-plumbing system, extending to the surface from more than 60 km deep in the earth.
Hawaiian Meaning
The Hawaiian name "Kilauea" means "spewing" or "much spreading," apparently in reference to the lava flows that it erupts. Eruptions have been Continuous since January 3, 1983. It is estimated that the first eruption of Kilauea
has between 300,000 and 600,000 years ago. LINK: Youtube

10 Deadliest Volcanic Eruptions
The Andean stratovolcano Nevado Del Ruiz or Mount Ruiz is located in Colombia’s Caldas Department that falls within the ‘Pacific Ring of Fire’. Although this volcanic cone had been active since the early Pleistocene epoch, its 1985 eruption and the subsequent mudflow were phenomenal and sufficient to wipe out the very existence of Armero. The October 1985 disaster that measured 3 in the Volcanic Explosive Index came as a shock since Mt. Ruiz had been inactive for 150 years.
However, it was followed by considerable pre-eruption like emission of fumaroles as well as post-eruption activities. The magma that came out with the eruptions was studies and found to be enriched in sulfur dioxide. Even now, the threat of future tectonic eruptions looms large upon the city of Manizales, situated precariously close to the fatal Mt. Ruiz. LINK

The Giant Causeway"
The Giant’s Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns resulting from a volcanic eruption. It is located on the North East coast of Northern Ireland, about 3 kilometres (2 miles) north of the town of Bushmills. Legend has it that the Irish giant Finn McCool built the causeway to walk to Scotland to fight his Scottish counterpart Benandonner.
The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, however there are some with four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (36 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres thick in places. Also :wiki Link
