Dolphin birth captured on camera in Hawaii

A dolphin has been filmed giving birth to a female calf in a Hawaii resort.
Footage of the birth shows the calf emerging from its mother tail first before immediately swimming off.
The birth occurred in a man-made lagoon at Dolphin Quest Hawaii, where visitors can swim with dolphins.
The dolphin calf will be monitored closely over the next 30 days as this is the most critical period for the new-born, Julie Rocho-Levine from Dolphin Quest Hawaii said.
The baby dolphin will be named when it is one month old, officials said.

Toowoomba Flood 2011.01.10

Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. This is some of the best footage I have seen of the Flood and was taken from the second floor of our office which backs onto Chalk Lane.

It shows just how fast the creek turned into a torrent and quickly flooded Chalk Drive and Chalk Lane.

I also got some video of where the creek crosses Neil Street and some video of the aftermath and the huge amount of cars damaged and piled on top of one another in the Chalk Drive car park. LINK: Youtube

Alone in the Wilderness

"Alone in the Wilderness" is the story of Dick Proenneke living in the Alaska wilderness. Dick filmed his adventures so he could show his relatives in the lower 48 states what life was like in Alaska, building his cabin, hunting for food and exploring the area. Bob Swerer has taken the best footage from Dick's films and he has created 3 videos about Dick, "Alone in the Wilderness", "Alaska, Silence and Solitude" and "The Frozen North". These are also at the Youtube Link below.

You can purchase all of them in DVD or VHS format from the www.DickProenneke.com website. LINK: Youtube

Music video made from re-cut public domain science fiction B-movie

Noah from the Skull-a-Day project sez, " I thought you would enjoy this video I made for my new project, League of Space Pirates. It's a track from our recently released digital Hypertrophy EP and the video was made entirely with footage of the public domain film Assignment Outer Space which I got from Archive.org. I was interested in seeing if I could find enough footage within the film to carve out a new totally different story that related to the song."

Mark Twain at Stormfield, 1909 (Edison film)

Silent film footage taken in 1909 by Thomas Edison at Stormfield (CT) at Mark Twain's estate. Twain is shown walkng around his home and playing cards with his daughters Clara and Jean. The flickering is due to film deterioration, but this is the only known footage of the great author.

Mark Twain died a year after this footage was filmed, but here we are—over a century later—watching him walk and laugh. [YouTube, Via: Open Culture, Via: Roger Ebert, Via: Gizmodo]

People in Yosemite: A TimeLapse Study

"QUOTE" Yosemite is bigger than Rhode Island at almost 800,000 acres, but it receives about 3.5 million visitors each year, and most of them spend time in Yosemite Valley. This project was shot back in 2005 after purchasing a Sony Z1U. This was my first HD project (ok, fine, HDV) and I spent about a week in Yosemite during the busy month of July. The footage was all shot in real time, and then sped up in post.

The music is from Peter Gabriel’s “Passion” (a.k.a. the soundtrack from Martin Scorcese’s “The Last Temptation of Christ”). LINK: Vimeo
