The world's largest flying machine has touched down ever so gently in Eden Prairie.
The Farmers Airship, one of only two zeppelins in existence, arrived Tuesday at Flying Cloud Airport just before 7 p.m. The California-based airship, with its Farmers Insurance sponsorship clearly visible, is touring the country and offering opportunities for the public to buy rides starting Friday and through the weekend.
Though it looks like a blimp, a zeppelin differs in that it has an internal framework. It is filled with nonflammable helium and maneuvers similarly to a helicopter. Two lateral engines and one in the rear provide flight control and propulsion. It measures 246 feet long -- that's 15 feet longer than a Boeing 747and 50 feet longer than the world's largest blimp.
The airship left Milwaukee late Tuesday morning, crossed into Minnesota at Wabasha and then coasted to the Twin Cities from there. In a nod to its sponsor, the airship passed over the Farmers Insurance regional headquarters in Bloomington.
To track the zeppelin's travels online, visit www.airshipventures.com/tracking.php. According to the site, rides can range from $375 or more a person. LINK

This thing is called kinetic wall. Made with 250,000 aluminium panels that are sensitive to wind currents, its 53,819-square-feet surface (5,000 square meters) looks like a vertical lake. Watching it in motion is a surreal experience:
The video above is from a smaller previous project. The wall in the image is being made by Urban Art Projects and artist Ned Kahn for the Brisbane Airport. It will completed next to the new domestic terminal short-term parking building in 2011. [Archdaily], Via: Gizmodo, Via: Youtube

This is the new best/worst music video ever. It's called Come on Back. The video tells the story of a babe who drops a 20 dollar bill in an airport, I think. I won't give away the end, but it's all very poignant, and the song is super intense. LINK, Via: That's Your Team, Via: Youtube
Does this make you want to fly the friendly skies? Not meant to represent the local Bronco's sports franchise. The artist who sculpted this died when it "fell" on him during construction. Many locals want it put out to pasture. LINK
Baggage claims at airports get more and more interesting for advertisers. The Venice Casino uses the moving ad space to communicate with tourists. Additionally free tickets for the casino get shared to the tourist. LINK, Via: Coolhunter

Amazing. This is the new Terminal Three at the Beijing Airport In China. Some have described it to look similar to a flying saucer. LINK: Youtube
