Experimental Animated GIFs by RRRRRRRROLL

Wow these are great! Back in May a couple in Japan started a new project called rrrrrrrroll, using photography to explore beautifully minimalist animations based on objects and people turning on a single axis. According to twitter the group makes roughly two animations a week (there’s 34 already), so it’s probably worth your time to tune in. If you liked these, also check out Stellar by Ignacio Torres.
I can't get the gif to work when I post it so you will have to go to the LINK, my apology.

Fantasmagorie

Fantasmagorie is an 1908 French animated film by Émile Cohl (born Émile Eugène Jean Louis Courtet). It is one of the earliest examples of traditional animation, and considered by film historians to be the first animated cartoon. To make this film, Cohl placed each drawing on an illuminated glass plate and then traced the next drawing-with variations-on top of it until he had some 700 drawings.

In 1908, chalkboard caricaturists were common vaudeville attractions and the characters in the film look as though they've been drawn on a chalkboard, but it's an illusion. By filming black lines on paper and then printing in negative Cohl makes his animations appear to be chalk drawings. LINK: The Presurfer, Via: Youtube

Papercraft Stop Motion Animated Music Video about Star Wars

(Video Link)
Jeremy Messersmith composed and performed a love song entitled “Tatooine”. It begins like this:

Twin suns of Tatooine
Taught me everything I know
Twin suns of Tatooine
Taught me everything I know

There’s room up there for second chances
Singles are fine but doubles are fantastic
I’d like to think that there’s a star for me and you
Spinning round, falling for one another

Papercraft animator Eric Power made this music video for it. It tells pretty much the entire original trilogy in two minutes and a half minutes.

The Windmill Farmer

Neatorama author JohnnyCat received a bit of inspiration in the form of an animated short story.

For the past few days, I’ve been seriously considering getting trained to be a wind turbine specialist. There’s a school right here in town that certifies people to go out and maintain the growing number of windmills providing renewable energy.

Looks like he’s going to take the course, after watching The Windmill Farmer by Joaquin Baldwin. LINK: Neatorama, Via: Youtube

Descendants

(Video Link)

Descendants is an animated short film by Heiko van der Scherm about two flowers, and the curiosity and treachery between them. In a manner that reminds me of the rabbits of Watership Down, the flowers are anthropomorphized, but still motivated primarily by the plant life cycle.

Starring Whoopi Goldberg. Run time: 14 minutes, 32 seconds.
