Artist Writes Detailed Portraits of Dogs

Florida-based artist Stephen Kline has created a new artistic technique that allows him to draw detailed portraits of dogs, using only text. For example he can draw the portrait of a poodle just by writing the word ‘poodle’ a few hundred times. You’d think writing the same word so many times would eventually get boring even for the most patient artist, but Stephen has so far created hundreds of these brilliant litographs of every dog breed you can think of.

Stephen Kline introduced his Lines of Language technique in 1999, and since then he’s gained thousands of art-collecting fans from 20 different countries and every state in the US. ARTISTIC TREE REFLECTIONS

“These colorful images could masterpieces by the world’s greatest oil painters – but are in fact photographs of trees reflected in the ripples of a river. Graphic designer Denis Collette, 63, evokes the spirit of works of artists such as Monet, Van Gogh and Turner with his photographic studies of a river and lake near his countryside cottage.” LINK

Frank Frazetta, RIP

The artist passed away this afternoon in a hospital near his home. The cause of death was a stroke. Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.

Frank Frazetta was born February 9, 1928. His early artistic career consisted of years of exquisitely drawn comics work, including contributions to the EC line of comics, assisting Al Capp on L’il Abner and later drawing several years of the strip, and working with Harvey Kurtzman on Little Annie Fanny.

In the ’60s, Frazetta turned to cover paintings for the thriving pulp paperback industry and created one of the most recognizable illustration styles of all time. His covers for Conan, Tarzan and other rough-hewn heroes created a visceral, violent, erotic yet somehow still nuanced visual style that has been endlessly imitated but never surpassed — Frazetta’s imagery of brawny, relentless swordsmen, seductive, fleshy sirens and hellfire breathing monsters had a gut level impact because it came from the gut — his many followers were just tracing without the passion of the originals. Quick, what does the word "cremation" bring to your mind? An image of spending eternity in a boring ol’ urn? Well, not anymore. Behold the new trend in the cremation industry: artistic funerary urns!

"I wouldn’t be making urns if they were just a cookie jar with a lid on top, sitting on a mantel," Knapp said. "That’s too morbid. If it’s a wacky-looking guy holding his own ashes over his head — now that lightens everything. The baby boomers all want to stand out. Even in the end, we want some whimsical receptacle for ourselves."

Virgin Mary Mosaic Made out of Easter Eggs

Ukrainian artist Oksana Mas created an enormous mosaic of the Virgin Mary composed of 15,000 wooden Easter eggs at the Santa Sophia cathedral in Kiev. The work was unveiled yesterday.

Elaborate Easter eggs — “pysanky” — are a major artistic tradition in the Ukraine. Gallery at the link.

Unexpected Car Dust Art

Scott can´t resist a dirty rear car window. We suspect that Scott started off with clever sayings like “wash me” or a smiley face.
The coolest part of Wade’s artwork is that it morphs on its own. As he continues to drive down the dusty alley or when it rains, the environmental elements go to work and change the image by deepening the patina aspects or adding curious stripes and shading or by even obliterating portion of the work, even sometimes the entire work.
This isn’t your typical art medium but Wade is a talented man with a curious mind and a wonderful edge. LINK
