Everyone knows about the Palace of Versailles in France, the Tower of London in England and the Forbidden City in China. These famous estates are awe-inspiring works of architectural mastery, not to mention historical goldmines.
Although these sites are some of the most famous, they're not the only destinations deserving recognition. Look past the tried-and-true and you may find other amazing structures. In an essay at The Telegraph, photography critic and picture editor Lucy Davis muses about the palettes used by well-known artists.
Some artists mix every gradation of colour they will need for a painting before they start, others as they need them. “My freshly arranged palette, brilliant with contrasting colors, is enough to fire my enthusiasm,” noted Delacroix in his Journal in 1850. The French artist was meticulous in his arrangement of colours, and when unwell, would take his palette to bed and spend the entire day just mixing new shades.
The actual palettes of Renoir, Seurat, Degas, Delacroix (above), Moreau, Gauguin, and Van Gogh are illustrated, accompanied by commentary on how the physical layout of colors on the board may influence the figurative “palette” of color choices used by the artist for his work.

Massachusetts is a state with a rich history and that includes the castles located in the Bay State. Some of these castles were built by the richest people in Massachusetts while other castles were built by cities in the state for various reasons.
A couple of these castles are on college campuses and one serves as a dorm for 120 students.
One castle in Massachusetts was built by an inventor who held over 400 patents and was mentored by both Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell and his father ran most of Cecil Rhodes mines in Africa.

Before they were the first women to become famous on the Grand Ole Opry and the National Barn Dance, The Cackle Sisters, (also known as the DeZurick Sisters) were raised on a farm in Royalton, Minnesota. To develop their unique yodeling style, Caroline De Zurik has said they simply "listened to the birds and tried to sing with the birds."

In this video clip from New York University's annual talent show four years ago, Stefani Germanotta — aka Lady Gaga — performs two songs she wrote herself. She came in third place. At the end of her performance, one of the judges says: "Norah Jones, look out!" Little did she know that Lady Gaga would not be making Norah Jones-ish music at all. Her definitive collection can be seen in her new book, Exposures, and at an exhibition of her work at Kings Place in London until 21 November 2009.
