Lemur’s Eyes Vs. Tasty Fruit

But at two weeks old, staff at the Scottish safari park where Ruffles resides are still unsure whether the animal is a boy or a girl. The red-ruffed lemur was pictured today getting to grips with its new surroundings… ‘They are endangered in the wild and we are pleased to have a new arrival here.’ Although for now it mostly stays beside its mother, curiosity got the better of it when it was presented with a pear. Missing Link Connects Humans With … Lemurs?!

Paleontologist Jorn Hurum lead a team of scientists to analyze a 47-million-year-old fossil above (named "Ida") and came up with this intriguing conclusion: it is a critical missing-link species in the evolution of primates!

"This is the first link to all humans," Hurum, of the Natural History Museum in Oslo, Norway, said in a statement. Ida represents "the closest thing we can get to a direct ancestor."

Ida, properly known as Darwinius masillae, has a unique anatomy. The lemur-like skeleton features primate-like characteristics, including grasping hands, opposable thumbs, clawless digits with nails, and relatively short limbs.

Planet of the Lemur: 10 Beautiful Little-Known Species

The Crowned Lemur has a lovely strip of red across its forehead, hence its name and does have the look of a small girl going to a party dressed as a princess! It lives mostly on the Ankarana Plateau of Madagascar and at the very most there are only ten thousand of them on the island.
