Watch an Artist Make a Portrait from 3.2 Million Dots
Hero from Miguel Endara on Vimeo.
With certain works of art, the creation process is just as interesting to behold as the finished product. Take Miguel Endara’s impressive portrait of his father, a drawing that’s composed of an estimated 3.2 million ink dots. “It’s not exact, but very, very close to the real number,” explains the self-proclaimed stipple enthusiast. “I multiply speed of plotting (how many dots I put down per 10 seconds) with the number of hours I work on each section.” And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call patience. Magnetic Spheres Sculptures by Dimitri Tishchenko

By day, Dimitri Tischenko is a computer programmer. By night, he's a mad genius constructing impossibly complex geometrical sculptures using neodymium magnet spheres (like the popular Buckyballs or other brands available online).
The one above is titled 7-7 Tight Interlock Sphere, described by Dimitri as "two layered circles consisting of 7 balls ... too fragile to put down" to photograph. LINK: Neatorama
Here is another of his fantastic creations:

Hip-Hop's Turntable Goes To The Great Lock Groove In The Sky

Sometimes a piece of equipment outlives its usefulness before it outlives its place in our heart. The Technics 1200 turntables were central to the creation of hip-hop, even elemental — when people say "two turntables and a microphone" they're referring to that model.
The death was reported by Resident Advisor, the dance music online magazine, following a press release from the Panasonic Corporation, which manufactures the Technics brand. The announcement that it's ceased production of its analogue turntables read, in part:
After more than 35 years as a leading manufacturer of analogue turntables, Panasonic has regretfully taken the decision to leave this market. However, Panasonic will continue to sell headphones under the Technics brand.
We are sure that retailers and consumers will understand that our product range has to reflect the accelerating transformation of the entire audio market from analogue to digital.
In addition, the number of component suppliers serving the analogue market has dwindled in recent years and we brought forward the decision to leave the market rather than risk being unable to fulfill future orders because of a lack of parts. LINK, Video: Via: Youtube

BBC Horizon 2010: What Happened Before the Big Bang
They are the biggest questions that science can possibly ask: where did everything in our universe come from? How did it all begin? For nearly a hundred years, we thought we had the answer: a big bang some 14 billion years ago.
But now some scientists believe that was not really the beginning. Our universe may have had a life before this violent moment of creation.
Horizon takes the ultimate trip into the unknown, to explore a dizzying world of cosmic bounces, rips and multiple universes, and finds out what happened before the big bang. This video is part one of six. More at the LINK: Youtube

Sagrada Familia: The Unfulfilled Vision of a Unique Architect

Today the architectural world remains divided. Should the cathedral be completed in a less ambitious contemporary style? Or should it be left, unfinished, as an original creation?
One exhibit in the Paris Exhibition of 1910 stole the show. It was a plaster model of a church designed by the Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi – a design so daring and outrageous that it was difficult to believe anyone seriously consider building it.
An extraordinary fusion of Gothic and Art Nouveau in style, the model was painted in vibrant colors that further enhanced the exuberant design. The plans called for spotlights to direct shafts of light into parts of the interior. Three sets of bell towers, housing both manually operated and electronically controlled tubular bells, were to be topped by stone statues of cherubim with wings that would move in the wind.
One hundred years later, the project is still unfinished. Link, Via: Neatorama

The Amazing Sculptures of Fabio Viale

If you took a look at the larger version of this sculpture (left), you’d immediately conclude that it was made out of Styrofoam. As impressive as that would be, the real mind-blower here is that it’s actually marble.
All of Fabio Viale’s creations from marble have a deceptive quality to them, prompting the beholder to utter “No way,” with each new sculpture. From paper airplanes, to actual working boats, to classic renderings of the human form, they all inspire.
For instance, these seemingly impossible tires linked together? Black marble.
