Jewelry made from laminated, polished cross-sections of books
UK designer Jeremy May makes jewelry by laminating and polishing pages from old books together to make striking pieces: "The beauty of the jewels extends within the piece: text and images pass all the way though the object, only exposed at the surfaces - giving a tantalising glimpse of the book within."

The Most Spectacular, Precious, and Magical Beauty of Stones: The Magnificent Opal
Opal, a stone of ill omen. Associated with death, as this gemstone reacts to body temperature and becomes dull when life passes from the body!
The opal is a gem of magical beauty; in its depths flash brilliant sparks of constantly changing colors that have entranced and fascinated people for centuries. Considered by many to be the most precious of stones, the opal is also the most fragile, and it’s sensitively to light, atmosphere, and temperature has given it an air of unpredictable that has added to its appeal.
But despite its unique properties – or perhaps because of them – the opal, more than any other stone, has inspired bigotry and superstition. Over the centuries it has waxed and waned in public favor, being viewed alternately as a charm for good luck and as an object of fear and dread.

Jewelry Created From Plasticized Human Milk
Milk can be turned into plastic by solidifying the casein it contains. French design team 'Duende' used this technique to turn human breast milk into a jewel, and then use that to make a necklace.
Duende's 'Perle de lait' range of jewellery imagines a new set of personalized post-natal objects. The breast-feeding mother sends a feeding bottle full of her milk to a laboratory where it is transformed into a gem-like substance that can be mounted on a neck-piece or any other form of jewellery.
