If You Have Five Minutes, You Have to Watch This Awesome Animated Short

Salesman Pete and The Amazing Stone From Outer Space. If you have to watch a video during lunch at the office, this is it. It's pure animation bliss, with the most exquisite use of 3D.

The atmosphere, the pace, the action... and also the perfect rendering to make it look like pure airbrushed, hand-drawn 2D animation. Marc Bouyer, Max Loubaresse, and Anthony Vivien—as well as musician Cyrille Marchesseau and sound designer Mael Vignaux—should all get an Oscar and jobs at Pixar. [Salesmanbuck) Via: Gizmodo

Musicians Who Died in the Sky: A Tribute

This is a tribute to stars we no longer see but their voices will never die. They may have sang for years with many hits, or as in the case of Richie Valens, just starting out on their career. Whatever their life map was, they remain with us in the form of music. They may have died the same way but they were all very different in the way they entertained us.

The swing band musical Major, Glenn Miller became famous for his jazz band and the jiving swing sound was welcomed during WWII. As soon as you hear the music, you just find yourself tapping your feet, even if you are not a jazz fan.

December 1944 he was flying from Bedford in the UK to Paris, this trip was to entertain the American troops based there, sadly he never made it. LINK, Via: Youtube

Top 10 Reclusive Artists

Syd Barrett was perhaps the most reclusive musician of all time, to the point that at the time of his death, many of his most devoted fans believed he had already been dead for years. Barrett got his start with the rock band Pink Floyd in 1964, and was driving force behind the band’s shift toward the psychedelic sound that made them famous. Barrett himself was a heavy user of LSD and other psychedelics, a practice that is said to have led to increasingly erratic behavior in him. Barrett left the band in 1968 and halfheartedly released two solo albums, but eventually gave up on music after refusing offers to produce the records of many popular bands. 1978, he moved back into his mother’s house in Cambridge, and it was there that he lived out the rest of his days until his death in 2006. He gave no interviews, and is said to have spent the majority of his time painting and working in his garden. LINK, Via: Youtube

Copyright vs. folk music

Doron sez, "Folk musician Steven Arntson wanted to write a song that riffed on a Woody Guthrie's 'I Ain't Got No Home'. Guthrie's song was based on the Carter Family's 'This World Is Not My Home' which was in turn based on an old spirtual... Unfortunately Arnston is finding out that current copyright law does not allow for the creative give and take that was once a vital and basic part of music composition."

Sixty-eight years later, in 2008, I heard "Can't Feel and Home" and "I Ain't Got No Home," and felt the latter lyric connected well with some lyrics I was writing for what would become The Emerald Arms suite. I decided to arrange "I Ain't Got No Home" as the second movement. After creating the recording and sheet music of the entire work, I set out to discover whose permission I should ask before giving the suite away online as free recordings and a score.

Because the melody dates back to 1909, it's in the public domain (the current cutoff for which is 1923). Guthrie's lyric, on the other hand, is not. Two companies own different rights to it. The Richmond Organization (TRO) owns the rights to reproducing the song's sheet music and the Harry Fox Agency (HFA) owns the rights to reproducing sound recordings of the piece.
