'Eagle cam' advocate dies helping with Mpls. tornado cleanup
MINNEAPOLIS -- A man using a chainsaw to help clear a tree from a blocked roadway collapsed and died, his family said Monday, the second confirmed death related to a tornado that tore through Minneapolis over the weekend, injuring dozens of people and destroying hundreds of homes.
Family and friends of Rob MacIntyre said the 53-year-old collapsed about 6 p.m. Sunday, not long after helping clear the tree that was toppled by the tornado.
MacIntyre was president of the Iowa-based Raptor Resource Project, the organization behind an "Eagle Cam" in Decorah that has attracted worldwide attention over the Internet. The group issued a statement mourning his death.
"I have some bad news. Rob MacIntyre has passed away," wrote webmaster Amy Ries. "Rob was the President of the Raptor Resource Project. He was very involved in our work, rappelled with us, and established a new falcon nest last year at Riverview Towers. Rob gave me (Amy) rappel lessons at his home in North Minneapolis, using a large tree in his yard. He was a great guy, always very enthusiastic and encouraging, and he sure loved to rappel. He caught Amy when we were banding at Greysolon in 2006 and named her "Amy" (she was an unbanded adult falcon). We have many great memories of Rob and are shocked and saddened by his passing."
The RRP's Facebook page is stacked with tributes to MacIntyre and the impact he made with his life. LINK

Man in Kenya Builds Airplane from Scrap
(Video Link)
Gabriel Nderitu, an IT professional in Kenya, is almost finished making his homemade airplane. He researched the design online and built it out of spare parts:
In the end, Nderitu mounted a Toyota engine to his modular airframe. The strutted wing and ailerons are skinned with aluminum sheet. The engine itself turns up to 4,000 rpm, driving a 74-inch wooden propeller through a simple reduction belt drive.
Nderitu plans to make his first flight soon.

NEW WORLD’S SHORTEST MAN REVEALED
“The world record for the world’s shortest man has been claimed by a 24-year-old Colombian named Edward Nino Hernandez – who is just 27 inches tall. Nino has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s shortest man, after the previous record holder – China’s 22-inch-high He Pingping – sadly died in March. Nino, who weighs just 22lb, has recently embarked on a career in acting – playing a tiny drug thug who gets killed in a shootout. Nino, who says that he loves dancing, previously earned money by dancing in department stores.” LINK
However, his time as the world's shortest man is unlikely to last long, according to Guinness World Records officials. His crown is expected to be snatched from him by Nepal's Khagendra Thapa Magar - who, at 22in (56cm), currently holds the title of the world's shortest teenager - just as soon as he turns 18 on October 14.

The Mirror Man
“When you live in a world of mirrors, can any fact go unchallenged? When you are the mirror itself, what do you see? Who can say what thoughts were going through the mind of this extraordinary street performer when he came up with his design for the ‘Mirror Man’. The sight of this man made of mirrors certainly must have been a surprise for the visitors to Griffith Observatory in LA late last year. A few hours spent contemplating the far off mysteries of the universe only to have one land in front of you must have perplexed a number of people that day.” w/ photos. LINK

This Metal Man Bends in Ways We Can't
Meet Artform No. 1. It took him six years to grow from a heap of brass and stainless steel into this ooh-la-la-hey-there-gorgeous model you see now and he's damn proud of it. Just look at this cheeky metal man's poses.
The Artform No. 1 figurine was built by Mark Ho out of over 500 parts and the 17-inch, 16-pound fellow is fully articulated, which means that he can be posed in any of the shapes the human form can take and then some:
Only 25 of these sculptures have been made and, while their prices aren't listed, I can't help but want one to lounge on my desk, giving me those sultry bedroom eyes as I write silly posts. [Zoho Artforms, Via: Automata/Autamaton, Via: Make, Via: Gizmodo

Man "wins" World of Warcraft
Taiwanese World of Warcraft player has "completed" the game, having scored all 986 achievements. To accomplish this remarkable feat, he "killed 390,895 creatures, accumulated 7,255,538,878 points of damage, completed 5,906 quests (that's 14.62 quests per day, apparently), raided 405 dungeons and hugged 11 players." Videos Of Man (and Creature) Fused With Machines
Wired has put together a list of the top ten cyborg videos. But not everything is about fusing man with machine.
As you can see in the sample videos above, sometimes we choose to make bionic monkeys and insects. Truly, it's the weirdest of the weird sciences. Check out Wired for the complete list. [Wired], Via: Gizmodo, Via: Youtube--Video 1, Video 2, Video 3
