Image credit: Ayaka Ito and Randy Church [Spotted Via: Design Boom]
Designer/illustrator Ayaka Ito and programmer Randy Church collaborated on a digital project integrating 3D line work and traditional photography. The designers used various applications, including 3D flash drawing and 4D modeling programs. The results are surreal and give the model a shredded, wiry appearance. It’s almost like frantically drawing with an unspooled cassette tape. Check out Ito and Church’s works in detail past the break. LINK

LEGO Volkswagen Camper
This 1962 Volkswagen Camper Van is made entirely out of LEGOs. It includes features such as the 'V' shape three-way color split at the front, rounded roof and window frames, opening 'splittie' safari front window, opening doors, and of course, the instantly recognizable pop-up roof.
It even embraces its counterculture roots with an interior lava lamp and a T-shirt in the window that says 'Make LEGO models, not war.' LINK: Presurfer

Hip-Hop's Turntable Goes To The Great Lock Groove In The Sky
Sometimes a piece of equipment outlives its usefulness before it outlives its place in our heart. The Technics 1200 turntables were central to the creation of hip-hop, even elemental — when people say "two turntables and a microphone" they're referring to that model.
The death was reported by Resident Advisor, the dance music online magazine, following a press release from the Panasonic Corporation, which manufactures the Technics brand. The announcement that it's ceased production of its analogue turntables read, in part:
After more than 35 years as a leading manufacturer of analogue turntables, Panasonic has regretfully taken the decision to leave this market. However, Panasonic will continue to sell headphones under the Technics brand.
We are sure that retailers and consumers will understand that our product range has to reflect the accelerating transformation of the entire audio market from analogue to digital.
In addition, the number of component suppliers serving the analogue market has dwindled in recent years and we brought forward the decision to leave the market rather than risk being unable to fulfill future orders because of a lack of parts. LINK, Video: Via: Youtube

Stilzkin Bridge Launcher
The Stilzkin EXT3 Bridge Launcher is used to deploy bridges to cross rivers, small chasms or similar obstructions. Placing the bridge takes less than a minute. Once the span has been put in place, the launcher detaches itself from the bridge, and moves aside to allow traffic to pass. Once all of the vehicles have moved over, it crosses the bridge itself and reattaches to the bridge on the other side. It then retracts the span ready to move off again.
This model, inspired by real-world AVLBs (Armoured vehicle-launched bridge) was built for Lego's Technic challenge. LINK: Youtube

Origami Cobra
DeviantART user orscobrusco specializes in origami. He’s put pictures of impressive pieces in his gallery, such as this cobra. It was made from a single sheet of paper with no cuts or glue. Here’s his description run through Google Translator:
Original model of the undersigned, created in ‘98.
This in particular is made of paper “elephant skin” patterned wet-folding, sheet starting about two meters long. The paper has been applied to the wounded colored with a dark wood stain and ink.

Sculpture Looks Like Borg Cube Made Out of Plumbing
Photo: VVORK
This Steven Shearer’s art piece, titled Geometric Healing Cell for Youth – Model III (2007) reminds me of two things: first, a Borg space ship, if a Borg space ship were made from copper plumbing.
And second, the Redneck Pool Heater, a BBQ grill modded by Todd Harrison and his daughter Veronica Harrison into a DIY pool heater. More BBQ stuff: Top 10 Coolest BBQ Grills (And Then Some!) LINK: Neatorama

This Metal Man Bends in Ways We Can't
Meet Artform No. 1. It took him six years to grow from a heap of brass and stainless steel into this ooh-la-la-hey-there-gorgeous model you see now and he's damn proud of it. Just look at this cheeky metal man's poses.
The Artform No. 1 figurine was built by Mark Ho out of over 500 parts and the 17-inch, 16-pound fellow is fully articulated, which means that he can be posed in any of the shapes the human form can take and then some:
Only 25 of these sculptures have been made and, while their prices aren't listed, I can't help but want one to lounge on my desk, giving me those sultry bedroom eyes as I write silly posts. [Zoho Artforms, Via: Automata/Autamaton, Via: Make, Via: Gizmodo

Einstein Robot - UCSD Machine Perception Laboratory
Scientists at UC San Diego's California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) have equipped a robot modeled after the famed theoretical physicist with specialized software that allows it to interact with humans in a relatively natural, conversational way. The so-called "Einstein Robot," which was designed by Hanson Robotics of Dallas, Texas, recognizes a number of human facial expressions and can respond accordingly, making it an unparalleled tool for understanding how both robots and humans perceive emotion, as well as a potential platform for teaching, entertainment, fine arts and even cognitive therapy. Minas Tirith Matchstick Model
A couple of years ago, Iowa artist Patrick Acton built a model of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School completely out of matchsticks. His latest matchstick project is even bigger. He’s building a model of the fortress Minas Tirith from the Lord of the Rings trilogy! Acton expects the model to be completed in 2009. Link, Via: Neatorama
