Street Artist ‘Megx’ Creates Giant Lego Bridge in Germany

In October of last year street artist Megx converted a bridge in Wuppertal, Germany into a giant Lego structure using colored panels that create the illusion of being the underside of Lego bricks. The bridge itself is part of the Wuppertal Bewegung e.V., an old train line that has been converted to a pedestrian and cycle path. How great is this? There’s been no shortage of giant toys and games in the streets lately. See much more on his website. Photos above courtesy Lukas Power and Rolf Dellenbusch.

A Peek Inside Lego Headquarters

Hello, dream office. Employees who work at Lego HQ get to enjoy a slide inside of their already sleek-and-modern digs. I imagine their day-to-day goes something like this: “Hey, Bob. Meet me in the conference room for a very important meeting in 30 seconds — just take the slide!” LINK

It even embraces its counterculture roots with an interior lava lamp and a T-shirt in the window that says 'Make LEGO models, not war.' LINK: Presurfer

Master Builder Makes Legos Bend To His Will In Ohio Stadium Replica

Opened in 1922 and currently able to handle more 100,000 fans, Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, is a sight to behold. It's almost as amazing as the Lego replica sitting in Paul Janssen's basement.

The 42-year-old Ohio State University professor tells NPR's Robert Siegel on All Things Considered what it was like to build the horseshoe-shaped stadium out of 1 million Lego pieces. Built at a scale of 1:120, it took years of planning, collecting pieces and building to complete the project.

The mini-stadium can seat only 6,000 Lego people — that's thanks to issues of scale, not Janssen's work.

You can see the results for yourself in the photos below, and in a full photo gallery over at The Columbus Dispatch.

There is also audio on this story at the LINK.

Lego Battleship Yamato Is Biggest Lego Ship Ever

Like its real counterpart, this Battleship Yamato is the biggest Lego ship ever constructed. At 22 feet long, it took 6 years and 4 months to complete by one of our Lego contest winners. [Updated]

The Yamato—along with her sister ship Musashi—was the largest battleship ever constructed: 862 feet and 10 inches long and 121 feet long at its widest point. Made by Jumpei Mitsui, the Lego version was constructed at minifig scale (1/40), which is an amazing task that resulted in these specs: Is Bigger Than Three Queen-Sized Beds.

• 22 feet long.
• 3 feet wide.
• 330 pounds.
• More than 200,000 Lego pieces.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in LEGO

It took LEGO artist Matija Grguric 7 months and 15,000 bricks to recreate Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece Fallingwater. It’s currently on display at a museum in Zageb, Croatia. Grguric writes:

Scale of the building is minifig, or approximate 1:40. One of the issues was how to make the stone walls of the building. The result here is made out of 4 different shades of grey (old grey and bley). Other was the terrain and vegetation. In the end I decided to make it in winter atmosphere. Snow is something I always enjoy, and I was always more of a winter type of person, so here it is – my first snowy MOC. :)

Building process spread over total of almost 7 months, and the structure is made out of more than 15000 bricks (just an approximate guess). It is placed on 6 48*48 baseplates, and measures 115 x 80 x 50 cm. It weights more than 20 kg.

Motorized Lego Technic Avatar Helicopter is Grounded—For Now

Give this Lego Avatar helicopter a few aerodynamic tweaks, a slightly more powerful engine and a pilot spouting off canned, predictable dialogue, and I could easily see it taking flight, literally, to fight the Na'Vi.

Scale model of the Battle Helicopter form James Cameron's Avatar.
Made for a LEGO building competition.

Looks pretty sturdy too, which is incredibly important should the pilot happen to have a James Cameron-sized ego. [Nowhere Else, Via: CrunchGear], Via: Gizmodo, Via: Youtube
