If You Have Five Minutes, You Have to Watch This Awesome Animated Short
Salesman Pete and The Amazing Stone From Outer Space. If you have to watch a video during lunch at the office, this is it. It's pure animation bliss, with the most exquisite use of 3D.
The atmosphere, the pace, the action... and also the perfect rendering to make it look like pure airbrushed, hand-drawn 2D animation. Marc Bouyer, Max Loubaresse, and Anthony Vivien—as well as musician Cyrille Marchesseau and sound designer Mael Vignaux—should all get an Oscar and jobs at Pixar. [Salesmanbuck) Via: Gizmodo

Sintel
"Sintel" is an independently produced short film, initiated by the Blender Foundation as a means to further improve and validate the free/open source 3D creation suite Blender. This 15 minute film has been realized in the studio of the Amsterdam Blender Institute, by an international team of artists and developers. In addition to that, several crucial technical and creative targets have been realized online, by developers and artists and teams all over the world. LINK: Youtube

Making Future Magic: iPad light painting
This film explores playful uses for the increasingly ubiquitous ‘glowing rectangles’ that inhabit the world.
They use photographic and animation techniques that were developed to draw moving 3-dimensional typography and objects with an iPad. In dark environments, they play movies on the surface of the iPad that extrude 3-d light forms as they move through the exposure. Multiple exposures with slightly different movies make up the stop-frame animation. LINK: Vimeo, Via: Walyou

Watch Sony's 360 Degree 3D Display in Action
The prototype is now on show in Tokyo, and as you'll see in the video, the 96 by 128-pixel resolution looks better than you might expect. In person, objects appear to have depth, and can be viewed from all angles.
The cylindrical display is about 10.6-inches tall (and 5.1-inches in diameter). Sony doesn't seem quite sure what to do with it at the moment, but says it's considering various uses, like digital signage, or even a digital photo frame for the home. [Sony Via: Network World]. Via: Gizmodo
