Mount Rushmore National Memorial

The four figures carved in stone on Mount Rushmore represent the first 150 years of American history. The birth of our nation was guided by the vision and courage of George Washington. Thomas Jefferson always had dreams of something bigger, first in the words of the Declaration of Independence and later in the expansion of our nation through the Louisiana Purchase. Preservation of the union was paramount to Abraham Lincoln but a nation where all men were free and equal was destined to be. At the turn of the Twentieth Century Theodore Roosevelt saw that in our nation was the possibility for greatness. Our nation was changing from a rural republic to a world power. The ideals of these presidents laid a foundation for our nation as solid as the rock from which their figures are carved. Each man possessed great skills and leadership of the brand our nation needed for the times.
I have been to Rapid City, South Dakota but never made it to Mount Rushmore.Which we also call the Black Hills. They also have an airforce base ther where I watched the Thunderbirds do there air show. LINK

Taj Mahal, Agra, India

Taj Mahal is regarded as one of the eight wonders of the world, and some Western historians have noted that its architectural beauty has never been surpassed. The Taj is the most beautiful monument built by the Mughals, the Muslim rulers of India. Taj Mahal is built entirely of white marble. Its stunning architectural beauty is beyond adequate description, particularly at dawn and sunset. The Taj seems to glow in the light of the full moon. On a foggy morning, the visitors experience the Taj as if suspended when viewed from across the Jamuna river. LINK

"Great Wall of China"

Shi Huangdi was credited with linking the various sections of the wall, which was then known as the Wan Li Chang Cheng (Ten Thousand Li Long Wall), to form what is now known as the Great Wall of China. It twists and winds along hill crests, gorges, and rivers. Its length extends 3,000 miles westward: from the China Sea town of Shanhaiguan to Gansu province. To put this in perspective, it is equivalent to the distance from Los Angeles to Boston, or from London to beyond the Urals mountain chains that separate Europe from Asia. LINK

"Sky, Sunset, Clouds Pictures"

The color of the sky is a result of diffuse sky radiation. On a sunny day the Earth sky usually looks as a blue gradient - dark in the zenith, light near the horizon.
Sunset is the time at which the sun disappears below the horizon in the west. The sunset is often more brightly coloured than the sunrise because there is more dust at the end of the day than at its beginning.

UV Absorbing Filters
Ultraviolet filters, sometimes called sky filters, provide a basic reduction in the UV light found especially at high altitudes where the UV-absorbing atmosphere is thinner. UV light causes a blue colour cast in photographs or loss of detail, particularly when photographing over long distances in either colour or black-and-white. Haze caused by UV light should not be confused with haze caused by airborne particles such as smog. The latter absorbs visible light as well as UV light and is not removed by a UV filter. Ultraviolet filters are made with a variety of absorption levels with some tinted to give added warmth and better colours. UV filters may be left on the lens as protection against dust, moisture, scratches, fingerprints and breakage. LINK

"Bob Dob"

It has been said that truth can best be told through exaggeration of humor. The edginess Bob Dob casts upon his woe some bad-boy characters lends a sardonic aura of humor and pain. ‘The moment,’ captured in a character’s frown, is echoed in perennial adolescent angst. He reaches across generations to communicate with the youth of today. His narratives depict figures in action as each character represents something we all want to be, say, or do, whether we’re five or seventy-five. It’s about the ’shadow side’ we either lost along the way and have forgotten, or somehow exercise within ourselves on a daily basis.

Born and raised in Hermosa Beach, California, Bob Dob cultivated a taste for adolescent unrest early on, expressing his talent through music, playing guitar in a punk band named Lunacy. Transmutation from music to art was a natural progression for him. He currently works as a freelance commercial artist for such clients as Aflac, American Airlines, Village Voice, and ABC Family Channel.

"Natalie Shau"

Natalie is a 23 years old Vilnius (Lithuania) based artist. She works mainly in digital media and her pieces are mix between photo manipulation, 3D elements and digital painting/drawing. She enjoys creating surreal and strange creatures, fragile and powerful at the same time. Her style was influenced a lot by religious imagery, fairytales illustrations and many classical and modern painters. However, she is still searching for perfect expression that could totally convey her inner world and visions.

She constantly keeps working on her own portfolio, but also enjoy creating illustrations for music bands, fashion designers and writers. She already had a chance to work with some big music labels like Nuclear Blast (The Duskfall) , Century Media (Lacuna Coil, PoisonBlack, The Agonist) ,Trisol (Samsas Traum), Diquela (Ojos De Brujo) and some smaller ones.”

"Ian Keltie"

Ian Keltie is a Commercial Artist based in the U.K, Ian’s digital style takes many influences including the skylines and architecture of his home town of Newcastle Upon Tyne as well as all things he finds cool, magazines , scuffed jeans, old shoes, 1970’s photographs and the work of austrian painter Egon Schiele. Ian is always interested in new projects, and is keen to add to his growing list of worldwide clients.

"Jeremy Mayer"

b.1972
Born in rural northern Minnesota
He disassembles typewriters and then reassembles them into full-scale human figures, sometimes encasing them in clear casting resin. He does not solder, weld, or glue; the process is entirely cold, mechanical assembly. He also does charcoal drawings based on ideas about biotech and nanotech.
He is interested in time spent and the future. He uses CAD and 3D programs to do the studies of his drawings (backwards, He knows), which essentially are studies for sculptures that He cannot afford to make. The typewriter pieces take about 1200 hours for a full-scale human figure.
Any long-winded tirades about recycling or nostalgia for mechanical machines would be absolute bullshit, and He is renowned for bullshitting . He was broke and bored when it all came to him. The romantic high ideals that people have about art are moronic. Art is a disease and a curse if you do it for the right reasons.
He tries his best not to fill the world with more contrived and saccharine shit. LINK

"Master of the Killer Ants"

The Mofu people of northern Cameroon, Africa, have developed a unique process of defending themselves and their crops against termites and other pests: by calling on killer ants they called the jaglavak (Dorylus) for help!

The Mofu who sees his compound invaded by termites and ants calls on the jaglavak for help. Dorylus colonies are not easy to find. After identifying the nest or colony of jaglavak on the move, the Mofu removes from the colony several hundred to a thousand, or even more, Dorylus soldiers. […]

The Mofu put the jaglavak on the ground within an ocher circle from which extends a path, also traced in ocher, that leads toward the area of the most badly infested house. The Mofu admit that they do not see the jaglavak operate, but they claim that two or three weeks later, the harmful insects have disappeared, and the jaglavak as well, for they do not remain in the compound … LINK, LINK

"Colorful Glass Art " by Dale Chihuly

Considered the greatest living master of glass-working, Dale Chihuly’s glass creations show us just that. From warm yellow and bold reds to oceanic teals and deep sky blues, the spectrum of his work is boundless. Looking at Chihuly’s collection of Basket creations and Seaforms is enough to show us his extensive colour palette, while his work plays at the pre-conceived notions we have of what glass is.
But it’s not like Chihuly to work on a small scale. With dozens of installations across the country, he’s made wonderfully vivid designs to temporarily stand in the famed botanical gardens. Part of the series Glass and Gardens visited New York’s Botanical Gardens last year and the glass creations range from floral look-alikes to dazzling sun-inspired chandeliers. LINK,

"The Hidden Letter " by Kay Sage

Exhibited in San Francisco (USA), Fine Arts Museum. Kay Sage married fellow painter Yves Tanguy. When Tanguy died in 1955, Sage was deeply affected. "Leafy Sea Dragon"

Sea Dragons are arguably the most spectacular and mysterious of all ocean fish. Though close relatives of sea horses, sea dragons have larger bodies and leaf-like appendages which enable them to hide among floating seaweed or kelp beds. Sea dragons feed on larval fishes and amphipods, such as and small shrimp-like crustaceans called mysids (”sea lice”), sucking up their prey in their small mouths. Many of these amphipods feed on the red algae that thrives in the shade of the kelp forests where the sea dragons live.
The leafy sea dragon is the official marine emblem of the state of South Australia. A biennial Leafy Sea Dragon Festival is held by the District Council of Yankalilla, South Australia. It is a festival of the environment, arts and culture of the southern Fleurieu Peninsula, with a theme of celebrating the leafy sea dragon. The inaugural festival in 2005 attracted over 7000 participants and visitors. LINK

This is a video of a medium sulphur crested Eleanora cockatoo named Snowball living at the Bird Lovers Only Rescue in Schererville, Indiana.

Snowball loves the Back Street boys and has taught himself to dance to their song "Everybody."

"Snowball doesn't dance unless he's inspired. Huey Lewis and the News came on the radio a few days ago and we noticed him doing a slightly different dance. So we found the CD for this song and decided to let the video roll. Towards the end of the clip, Snowball twirls his head repeatedly to the instrumental part of the song. "Sloth Bear"

Species on the verge of extinction. The small sloth bear is unique amongst the bears, as insects are its main food source. It has a long, shaggy black coat, which on some individuals appears to have a cinnamon tinge, and there is a pale white/cream marking on the chest. The muzzle is also pale in colour and these bears have a shaggy mane of hair around the shoulders. The snout is relatively long, the lips are bare, and sloth bears lack upper incisors, all of which are adaptations for their insect-based diet. The front feet are turned inwards and have large and slightly curved ivory claws for digging. Early explorers saw these bears lying upside down in trees and gave them their common name of sloth bear. Most sloth bears live in India and Sri Lanka; others live in southern Nepal, and they have been reported in Bhutan and Bangladesh. Near Shanghai, the Songjiang district has become a popular weekend destination for many tourists with its natural beauty and sprawling landscapes. And now the Songjiang Hotel might just become the newest and greenest attraction. The 400-bed resort will be located in a 100-meter-deep quarry located in the province and will contain restaurants, cafes, sport facilities, and even underwater public areas and guestrooms. Water will play an important part in the design, featured in many areas around the hotel. Waterfalls, underwater aquariums, and green areas will be integrated into the design to match the existing facing of the quarry. LINK

"Development of a new born Panda"

Once upon a time the female panda was pregnant and when the time came she gave birth to this little fellow…

The new born cub was so small and fragile that he seemed to be more of a cat cub than of a panda one…Attention, good care and all the time needed were spent so that the little cub would grow healthy and beautiful…In a week, he is already acting as a ” big ” and powerful animal, sniffing around…At 25 days, the cub begins to look as a panda…the specific black spots have already appeared but he’s still blind…After 30 days, the cub looks like a little pig ..

In a couple more days, we have a brand new panda cub able to eat and start to play by his own. When he’s 85 days old, no one knows what he’s up to…But he still is somehow funny and he sleeps just like a human baby…Let’s blow the candle, the cub has reached 3 months old …Mammals evolve the same way as humans do and still, some people couldn’t care less about them, about the environment and about living a healthy life… Check out the progress in the pictures in the LINK.

"Dirty Car Art Gallery"

This image featuring Leonardo's "Mona Lisa" with Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" is shown at its peak. These images drawn in the dust are obviously quite impermanent. Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"

The 1st video from 5 time Grammy-nominated album St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley.

"You are the best. You are the worst. You are average. Your love is a part of you. You try to give it away because you cannot bear its radiance, but you cannot separate it from yourself. To understand your fellow humans, you must understand why you give them your love. You must realize that hate is but a crime-ridden subdivision of love. You must reclaim what you never lost. You must take leave of your sanity, and yet be fully responsible for your actions." -Gnarls Barkley, in a letter to the legendary rock critic Lester Bangs. Kapadokya, Turkey is home to hundreds of linked rooms that, together, form an ancient system of underground cities over 2,500 years old. Areas are separated by narrow corridors lit once lit by oil lamps as well as other architectural devices for maximizing the defensibility of the spaces. Settlement initially started on the surface, then slowly moved underground over time. Within the link you will also see other Lost Caverns and Buried Cities, along with videos. Via Web Urbanist

"Dazzling Set by 11 yr Old Violinist"

Only 11 years old when she performed at TED, Sirena Huang is still technically a child. But as anyone who sees her perform can attest, she has a musician’s soul that transcends her years. "Her musical imagination is boundless," said Juilliard dean Stephen Clapp, who described her as "a musical artist with qualities of maturity far beyond her age."

What's most striking in her performance style is the way she combines technical ability with emotional force and nuance. Her fiercely virtuoso performances are profoundly moving, even via podcast. "Amazed," "delighted" and "spellbound" are the words bloggers often use after watching her play. Via: Ted

"Dubai World Islands"

Dubai is home to an increasingly infamous set of awe-inspiring man-made islands, by far the largest in the world. One would almost have to be living on an island oneself to have not seen or heard of this first item on this amazing islands list. These islands, in the shape of everything from a palm to the world itself, constitute the most massive land-moving operation of all time. Dubai has recognized that oil, its original source of wealth, will only last for so long. With islands like these and a thriving tourist industry around them there is no doubt that Dubai will outlast its oil supplies. Via: Youtube

"10 Divinely Designed Churches"

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Las Lajas, or the Las Lajas Cathedral [wiki] in Colombia, was built in 1916 on a site where, according to local legend, the Virgin Mary appeared. The story goes like this: an Indian woman named María Mueses de Quiñones was carrying her deaf-mute daughter Rosa on her back near Las Lajas ("The Rocks"). Weary of the climb, the María sat down on a rock when Rosa spoke (for the first time) about an apparition in a cave.

Later on, a mysterious painting of the Virgin Mary carrying a baby was discovered on the wall of the cave. Supposedly, studies of the painting showed no proof of paint or pigments on the rock - instead, when a core sample was taken, it was found that the colors were impregnated in the rock itself to a depth of several feet. "10 Most Amazing Temples In The World"

Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched precariously on the edge of a 3,000-feet-high cliff in Paro Valley, is one of the holiest places in Bhutan. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche [wiki], the second Buddha, flew onto the cliff on the back of a tigress, and then meditated in a cave which now exists within the monastery walls.

The monastery, formally called Taktshang Goemba, was built in 1692 and reconstructed in 1998 after a fire. Now, the monastery is restricted to practicing Buddhists on religious retreats and is off-limits to ordinary tourists. Via: Neatorama
