Roman Cat Sanctuary
In Rome the cats have an ancient temple all to themselves. The site is known as Torre Argentina and was excavated under Mussolini's re-building efforts in 1929, revealing extensive multi-level temple grounds about 20 feet below modern street level. The site is actually composed of several temples as well as part of the famous Pompey's theatre, where in 44 BC Caesar was betrayed and killed on the theatre steps.
On any given afternoon a small crowd gathers to watch the cats sunbathe on ancient pillars and steps. LINK
Whether the cats rule themselves via Republic or recognize a cat Emperor is, as of yet, undetermined. More on Torre Argentina here.

The Liquid Rope-Coil Effect
Honey is dribbled off the end of a chopstick into a pot below. As the falling stream stikes the pool of honey below, it turns itself into tight circular coils which rapidly begin to pile one on top of the other. A growing column of liquid coils of rope begin to emerge from above the surface of the honey in the pot in an effect referred to as the liquid rope-coil effect.
Uneveness in the amount of sinking at the base of the growing column of coils causes it to collaspe before a new column of liquid coils re-emerge and begin to rise up again.
The rate of coiling is increased as the height from which the honey is allowed to fall from is raised. LINK: Youtube

World's largest collection of bottle ships
Bottle-Ship Museum in Enkhuizen, Holland.
This tiny museum is said to hold the world's largest collection of bottle ships--over 750 of them. An incredible variety of miniature boats--rescue boats, whaling ships, steamships, and modern dredgers--have been stuffed into every variety of bottle, from the tiniest light bulb to a 30-liter wine jug. Magnifying glasses are available where needed. On occasion, there are demonstrations of how to build bottle ships.
Shown above is a model of the Half Moon, the ship Henry Hudson was sailing when he discovered Hudson Bay and the Hudson River. It's builder, Ralph Preston, estimates that it took about 500 hours to assemble. LINK

Farrah Fawcett Dies At 62
Farrah Fawcett's trademarks as a sex symbol and 1970s TV star in "Charlie's Angels."
But as her life drew to a close, she captivated the public in a far different way: as a cancer patient who fought for, then surrendered, her treasured privacy to document her struggle with the disease and inspire others.
Fawcett, 62, died Thursday morning at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, nearly three years after being diagnosed with anal cancer. Ryan O'Neal, the longtime companion who returned to her side when she became ill, was with her.
"After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," O'Neal said. "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world." Last of Tiger Stadium destroyed
Michigan and Trumbull is missing an old friend as crews raised most of the remaining Tiger Stadium on Monday.
The stadium's upper deck, which had remained mostly in tact, collapsed around 2:30 p.m.
Freep.com, June 22: Witnesses said the first base portion of the structure began peeling away, and then the rest of the upper deck quickly collapsed upon itself.
The result is a massive pile of rubble, including the roof, twisted steel and concrete chunks.
A preservation group earlier this month attempted to postpone the final demolition, but a judge ruled against the delay and the razing resumed. LINK

"Iranian woman killed in protests"
A young woman who was standing aside with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot at the girl and could not miss her. However, he aimed straight her heart. I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim's chest, and she died in less than 2 minutes.
The protests were going on about 1 kilometers away in the main street and some of the protesting crowd were running from tear gas used among them, towards Salehi St.

Seven reasons why your EX Won't come back
You tried everything to get your ex back and he or she doesn’t seem to budge. You have tried to figure out what could be stopping him or her from being with you. Some of the following thoughts may have come to your mind, but you won’t face the truth because you are still very much in love with him or her. However, you will need to face the truth and here’s how.
One. He or she isn’t interested in you any longer.
Two. What you did was so bad that he or she can’t forgive you and forgetting is simply out the question.
Three. He or she has found someone better.
Four. He or she is more interested in achieving professional goals without distraction.
Five. He or she has reasoned that you can’t be trusted.
Six. He or she has been advised by a well-meaning family member or friend that you aren’t a healthy addition to his or her life.
Seven. He or she knows that you have been seeing someone else and may have children with this person.
Your ex is not interested in coming back for any one of these reasons or some other, and when you try to force something that is not working you are causing more problems for yourself and making it harder for you to move on in your life. There is a difference when an ex cares and when he or she loves. Just because he or she is polite and may have helped you a few times with a problem since you have been separated, doesn’t mean that he or she wants to be in a relationship with you.
More to read on each reason at the LINK.

US Army raises world's largest herd of white deer
Dylan Thuras is a guest blogger on Boing Boing. Dylan is a travel blogger and the co-founder of the Atlas Obscura: A Compendium of the World's Wonders, Curiosities, and Esoterica, with Joshua Foer. .
Recovering from our experience being Boinged (Sysadmin, save me!) I thought I would share a wondrous site found in a less than exotic location...
The story begins in 1941 at an army depot in Seneca County, NY when some soldiers noticed a couple white deer roaming inside their 24-square-mile fenced-off base. Realizing that something strange (and wonderful) was afoot, the General ordered the soldiers to protect the white deer. While the soldiers continued to hunt brown deer inside the confines of the reserve, the white ones were allowed to breed. With predators were kept at bay by a giant fence, and pressure put on the brown deer by hunting, the white deer population was able to explode. (These blanched deer are not albinos, as you might assume, but rather possess two copies of another rare recessive gene for whiteness.) There are now 200 of them roaming the grounds, the largest herd of white deer anywhere in the world.
Today the base is no longer active, but the deer are looked after by a not-for-profit organization--Seneca White Deer Inc--devoted to managing the herd. They are currently fighting plans by developers to reduce the area to a fourth of its current size. LINK
