The Mechanical Taxidermy of Ron Pippin

Artist Ron Pippin creates sculptures of animals with mechanical augmentations, such as the above work entitled “Solar Deer”. In an interview, Pippin said:
My work is often related to ideas about the relationship of Science, Art, and Nature. My scientific aesthetic is primarily drawn from the 19th Century, when, I feel, science still had a relationship to beautiful forms.

Wheelchair Blitzkrieg

The Zenith wheelchair, a design by the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Alberta, is fit with tank-like treads to climb up stairs under the user's own power.
The treaded design combines with strong, lightweight tech like an aluminum back frame and a Herman Miller-inspired carbon fiber seat to create a beastly machine that's not too cumbersome to actually wield. Still, if the design actually works—there's no working prototype yet—we have to wonder: Why didn't everyone put tank treads on wheelchairs already? Steampunk Mechanical Elephant

This amazing mechanical design was made out of transmission parts, electrical conduits, plumbing pipes and 20-gauge cold rolled steel.
It is 36" x 36" x 18" and weighs about 85 pounds.
All the joints move and lock in place; turning a gear on the elephant's side winds a cable around a shaft which raises and lowers the trunk; the ears move back and forth and can fan out (to dissipate heat). LINK
