A Day In The Life Of Mark Zuckerberg
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is constantly in the middle of some sort of torrid gossip storm, but his home life appears to be the opposite—it's calm and cozy. Here's a brief look into how he and his girlfriend go through an average day.
This video is part of an interview Mark Zuckerberg did with Oprah when he visited her show to discuss "his amazing $100 million donation to help fix Newark, New Jersey's public education system." It contains a very rare look into the life of the CEO and provides a few small insights such as how much time he spends at Facebook HQ (up to 16 hours a day!) and that he is learning Chinese in preparation for a trip to China with his girlfriend, Priscilla Chan.
Definitely worth a watch—whether you love or hate the man. [BI], LINK: Gizmodo, Via: Youtube

Jewelry made from laminated, polished cross-sections of books
UK designer Jeremy May makes jewelry by laminating and polishing pages from old books together to make striking pieces: "The beauty of the jewels extends within the piece: text and images pass all the way though the object, only exposed at the surfaces - giving a tantalising glimpse of the book within."

How To Permanently Delete Your Account on Popular Websites
If you’ve ever tried to permanently leave a social networking site and delete all the information in your account, you may have found it t be tougher than you think. Help is at hand!
We all have an increasing number of sites and online services we’re members of, and sometimes it all gets a little overwhelming. At times, we just need to delete our memberships to some sites, either in an effort to simplify our lives or just because we’ve grown tired of a particular site or service.
What we often don’t realize when signing up for all these accounts, though, is how difficult it can be to permanently delete our accounts when we’ve had enough. Some require complicated, multi-step processes that can stretch over the course of days (or weeks). Others take less time, but still require multiple steps by the user.

Facebook further reduces privacy control for users
The EFF reports on another ratcheting back of data privacy control for Facebook users: "Today, Facebook removed its users' ability to control who can see their own interests and personal information. Certain parts of users' profiles, 'including your current city, hometown, education and work, and likes and interests' will now be transformed into 'connections,' meaning that they will be shared publicly. If you don't want these parts of your profile to be made public, your only option is to delete them." LINK: Boingboing

Most beautiful bookstore - Buenos Aires's Librería El Ateneo Grand Splendid
Bueno Aires's Librería El Ateneo Grand Splendid used to be a beautiful movie palace. Saved from the wrecker's ball, it is now one of the most majestic bookstores I've ever clapped eyes upon, a veritable temple to books.
Marilyn sez, "El Ateneo Grand Splendid in downtown Buenos Aires is a spectacular bookstore that retains all the glamour of its former life as a 1920s movie palace, with a original balconies, painted ceiling, ornate carvings and crimson stage curtains. Photo by Bob Krist for National Geographic Traveler. The Guardian named El Ateneo as one of the top ten bookshops in the world (along with Secret Headquarters):'Where else can you sit in a theater box and leisurely read a volume of Neruda, or sip a cortado where Carlos Gardel once performed?'"

Klencke Atlas - The Largest Book in the World
The British Library has announced that the Klencke Atlas will have its first-ever public showing this summer as part of a map exhibition.
It is almost absurdly huge – 1.75 metres (5ft) tall and 1.9 metres (6ft) wide – and was given to [Charles II] by Dutch merchants and placed in his cabinet of curiosities.
At the time of its creation, it was intended as “an encyclopaedic summary of the world.” LINK: Neatorama

The Most Famous Unfinished Work of Art
The Mystery of Edwin Drood is the final novel by Charles Dickens. The novel was left unfinished at the time of Dickens' death and thus how it might have ended remains unknown. The novel is named after Edwin Drood but it mostly tells the story of his uncle, a choirmaster named John Jasper, who is in love with his pupil, Rosa Bud. Miss Bud is Drood's fiancée, and has also caught the eye of the high-spirited and hot-tempered Neville Landless, who comes from Ceylon with his twin sister, Helena. Neville Landless and Drood take a dislike to one another the moment they meet. Drood later disappears in mysterious circumstances and Dickens' death before he completed the story means that what happened to him remains a mystery for real.
An unfinished work is a creative work that has not been finished. Its creator might have chosen never to finish it, or might have been prevented by circumstances outside of their control (including death). More unfinished art at the site below.

Tattoo in Japan
Fans of Japanese culture and of tattoo art will find much to enjoy in this large format photobook exploring the diversity of Japan's tattoo scene.
Tattoo in Japan is divided into four chapters dedicated to different geographic regions: Tokyo, Chubu, Kyoto, and Osaka. Each area is known for a distinct style of ink art. They are presented here in rich color images accompanied by essays on the history of tattoo art in this country, and its contemporary expression.
The book profiles traditional tebori artists (and the rituals of respect that surround them), along with street shop inkers (for whom Western musical influences like punk and rockabilly reign). LINK: Boingboing

Contemporary African Art Since 1980: exclusive image gallery
Contemporary African Art Since 1980, a new book by Okwui Enwezor and Chika Okeke-Agulu, is the most comprehensive collection I've ever seen of modern art from or about Africa, by African artists.
The book explores how political, social, and cultural changes over the past thirty years have shaped urban, indigenous, and globalized "diasporic" art forms. Contemporary African Artis a roadmap of change and of evolving identities.
About the book's co-authors: Nigerian-born Okwui Enwezor is Dean of Academic Affairs at the San Francisco Art Institute, and editor and founding publisher of the African art journal Nka.
And Chika Okeke-Agulu is Assistant Professor of Art and Archeology and African American Studies at Princeton University, and editor of Nka.
