Meet Two Timepieces Inspired By Supercars and Obscene Luxury

When supercar and uber luxury car manufacturers get together with masterclass timepiece makers, the result is going to be both obnoxiously expensive and strikingly beautiful. These two new timepieces are no exception.

The first, above, is a collaboration between Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg and watchmaker EDOX. The hinged flaps are supposed to make one think of the gullwing doors on Koenigsegg CCR supercar. However, priced at a cool $21,000.

Only 30 will be produced, which is fitting given the number of CCR's there are out on the roadways today.

The second specimen is the spawn of James Bond's go-to ride maker, Aston Martin, and prestigious Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre. Called the AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT, this watch is limited to a run of 300 pieces. No price was given, but if you have to ask... [Classic Driver, Via: Born Rich], Via: Gizmodo

Watches More Expensive Than A Ferrari

"The Patek Caliber 89 - $5,120,000"
Most of these watches are more complicated than college calculus and have more history than you could learn in a lifetime. You might even need an engineering degree and an instructional tome to figure out how they work. Regardless, all these watches (for one reason or another) are ridiculously cool and absurdly expensive. Sell the Ferrari, liquidate the stocks, and pick up one of these bad-ass timekeeping devices.

So what makes this watch worth $5.12mil? For starters, it is the most complicated watch on the planet with 33 complications. Essentially, it requires a degree in mechanical engineering to understand, but suffice it to say it has everything but the kitchen sink. It also took more time to design than you spent in college (including those extra years “studying” chemistry). LINK, Via: Neatorama

Haruo Suekichi’s Steampunk Watches

Haruo Suekichi is a Japanese artist who specializes in making wonderful steampunk watches. In the past 12 years, Haruo has made some 7,000 watches - he started out selling them in the flea market, but now his watches are very collectible.

Chief Mag has an interview with the master watchmaker, who recounted an interesting tale of how he got the whole idea because he wanted to design a watch for a one-armed man:

at the flea market, a one-armed man came up to me. And he said to me, well, with only my left arm, I can’t put on a watch. Wow, I thought, he’s right…I wonder if I could make a watch like that? So I made - and you can see one upstairs in the showcase - I made a watch that you put your wrist in it and it shuts around your wrist.
