Hollywood Icon Elizabeth Taylor Dies at 79

Oscar winning actress Elizabeth Taylor died today at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Hospital. She was 79.

"She was surrounded by her children: Michael [Howard] Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd, and Maria Burton," Taylor's publicist, Sally Morrison, said in a statement.

In the same statement, Michael Howard Wilding, 58, memorialized his mother:

"My Mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love," he said. "Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world. Her remarkable body of work in film, her ongoing success as a businesswoman, and her brave and relentless advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS, all make us all incredibly proud of what she accomplished. We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts."

In addition to her children, Taylor is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Morrison said that a private family funeral will be held later this week. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that contributions be made to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and said that those wanting to send personal messages can log on to Taylor's official Facebook page. 'Eagle cam' advocate dies helping with Mpls. tornado cleanup

MINNEAPOLIS -- A man using a chainsaw to help clear a tree from a blocked roadway collapsed and died, his family said Monday, the second confirmed death related to a tornado that tore through Minneapolis over the weekend, injuring dozens of people and destroying hundreds of homes.

Family and friends of Rob MacIntyre said the 53-year-old collapsed about 6 p.m. Sunday, not long after helping clear the tree that was toppled by the tornado.

MacIntyre was president of the Iowa-based Raptor Resource Project, the organization behind an "Eagle Cam" in Decorah that has attracted worldwide attention over the Internet. The group issued a statement mourning his death.

"I have some bad news. Rob MacIntyre has passed away," wrote webmaster Amy Ries. "Rob was the President of the Raptor Resource Project. He was very involved in our work, rappelled with us, and established a new falcon nest last year at Riverview Towers. Rob gave me (Amy) rappel lessons at his home in North Minneapolis, using a large tree in his yard. He was a great guy, always very enthusiastic and encouraging, and he sure loved to rappel. He caught Amy when we were banding at Greysolon in 2006 and named her "Amy" (she was an unbanded adult falcon). We have many great memories of Rob and are shocked and saddened by his passing."

The RRP's Facebook page is stacked with tributes to MacIntyre and the impact he made with his life. LINK

Nature in Norway, Northern Lights in Tromsø, in HD

Nature in Norway, Northern Lights also called Polar Lights or Aurora in Tromsø, in HD
An aurora is a natural light display in the sky, particularly in the polar regions, caused by the collision of charged particles directed by the Earth's magnetic field. An aurora is usually observed at night and typically occurs in the ionosphere. It is also referred to as a polar aurora or, collectively, as polar lights. These phenomena are commonly visible between 60 and 72 degrees north and south latitudes, which place them in a ring just within the Arctic and Antarctic polar circles. Auroras do occur deeper inside the polar regions, but these are infrequent and often invisible to the naked eye. LINK: Youtube

Harmon Killebrew honored in funeral service

PEORIA, Ariz. -- It was a large gathering. Hundreds of people from across the country packed into a massive church near Harmon Killebrew's Scottsdale, Arizona, home to pay their final respects to the slugger. Killebrew passed away Tuesday after a difficult battle with esophageal cancer.

Pall bearers included current Twins Ron Gardenhire and Justin Morneau as well as former teammates Frank Quilici and Tony Oliva.

"Dad, I feel it's a privilege to call you dad. I will miss you greatly," Killebrew's daughter Shawn Bair said.

One of Harmon's grandchildren, his son-in-law and his oldest son also spoke.

Watch the funeral service: part one, part two, part three

It was a celebration of Harmon's life off the baseball field. He will be fondly remembered for the way he treated everyone equally and with the greatest respect. It is, perhaps, his legacy.

"Like he always told us, keep swinging," Harmon's son Cam said.

Former teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven spoke on behalf of the Minnesota Twins and Major League Baseball. He recalled the conversation he had with his buddy the day before he passed. Killebrew was concerned.

"You know what he was concerned about? The Twins were oh and eight," Blyleven said.

Hammerin' Harmon hit 573 home runs in his storied career. Blyleven asked the crowd to help celebrate his 574th.

"He wants to hear the roar of the crowd," Blyleven said before leading a long, respectful and heart-warming ovation. "We should all leave here knowing he touched our lives," Blyleven concluded.

Following the funeral current Twins Joe Nathan and Michael Cuddyer told reporters that Harmon left his mark on them, calling him a model to follow as an athlete and as a person. The Twins would leave after the service to get ready for a night game in Phoenix against the Diamondbacks.

"We all left the church this morning with a good feeling in our hearts that we're going to see him again. I think my good friend upstairs just needed another power hitter," former teammate and baseball legend Rod Carew said.

A private burial is scheduled Monday in Killebrew's hometown of Payette, Idaho
