Photos of a day-glo, underwater world
The Dyche Natural History Museum at the University of Kansas has this almost hidden little room in the basement where you can go in, close a curtain, flip on a blacklight and watch as a collection of seemingly ordinary rocks light up with a fluorescent glow. This series of images, taken by photographer Louise Murray, reminds me of how much I like that room at the Dyche. Only, instead of rocks, Murray snaps photos of coral, fish and other sea creatures, using a portable blue light.

The All of Everything
A central London exhibition space dedicated to showcasing the creative talents of University of Arts London’s students, The Arts Gallery is soon to fall victim to Crossrail’s controversial new railway project that has already taken the famous London Astoria and other smaller yet equally renowned venues and clubs. Fittingly, the gallery’s final show is a suitably epic affair and the largest, most ambitious yet from former Central Saint Martins graduate, Mike Ballard. The All of Everything features the artist’s almost apocalyptic vision of arts history, the installation encompasses the entire space of the gallery with floors, ceilings and walls depicting all that art has given us, psychedelically fused with Ballard’s archaic vision of all that art will ever give… a truly staggering piece of work that is as thought provoking as it is awe-inspiring. Showing from now until the demolition of the gallery, that is scheduled for some time in February, this is a unique work, displayed in unique circumstances and should not be missed…. LINK

Linderhof Palace
"A small but immensely extravagant palace built by the "Night King"
Of the three palaces "Mad" King Ludwig II had built, the Linderhof Palace was the only one he saw completed. Unfortunately for him, it was also the smallest. Prior to the Linderhof Palace, the grounds had been home to the Konigshauschen, Ludwig's fathers' old hunting cottage. The cottage was torn down in 1869 in order to build Ludwig's Linderhof.
Though much smaller, the architecture of the magnificent palace is extravagant with ivory candelabra's and carpets made of Ostrich feathers. Inspired by Versailles, Ludwig created a mirror image of "Sun King" Louis XVII's bedchamber and styled himself the "Night-King." Like his Neuschwanstein Castle, the Linderhof was also deeply inspired by composer Richard Wagner. Many rooms sport the themes of some of Wagner's greatest works.
Amidst the forested mountainous terrain, Ludwig built huge ornamental gardens that borrowed styles from a number of other countries and eras. Perhaps the most extravagant is the "Venus Grotto" a man-made cave lake. Ludwig enjoyed rowing across it in a golden swan boat. Finished in 1886 Ludwig had 24 early electrical dynamos installed at great expense so he could change the color of the grotto at will. LINK

Make a Room Sized Camera Obscura
This web page by Giorgio Carboni explains how to easily and inexpensively project the view outside your window onto your wall by turning your room into a camera obscura. All you need is some duct tape, posterboard, and a lens.
…it’s best if the window faces a view with some activity, it can be entertaining to see cars moving and people jogging upside down across your wall.
