Man Tries to Build Telegraph from Scratch

Jamie O’Shea is a conceptual artist. We’ve previously featured his bed, which is designed to be used standing up. More recently, he became interested in the role of knowledge in developing our technological civilization. Is knowledge alone enough, or are we dependent upon tools made by others? To find out, O’Shea decided to build a telegraph completely from scratch — including the tools — using only what he found in a New Jersey forest. At the link, you can watch a video of his attempt.

Shawn Smith's Pixelated Sculptures

Austin-based artist Shawn Smith creates 3D sculptures that look like pixelated images. He slices sheets of plywood into 3/4 inch cubes, dyes them, and then glues them together. Smith writes:

For the past few years, I have been creating a series of “Re-things.” These whimsical sculptures represent pixilated animals and objects of nature. I find images of my subjects online and then create three-dimensional sculptural representations of these two-dimensional images. I build my “Re-things” pixel by pixel to understand how each pixel plays a crucial role in the identity of an object. Through the process of pixilation, color is distilled, some bits of information are lost, and the form is abstracted. Making the intangible tangible, I view my building process as an experiment in alchemy, using man-made composite and recycled materials to represent natural forms.

WW2 German fighter plane sidecar

This beautifully bizarre and unique creation is the brainchild of Hungarian bike builder and Wild West theme park owner Henrik Toth.

The design is based on a Second world war Messerschmitt ME109 fighter plane and entirely hand built by Henrik.

The sidecar - or fuselage - is attached to a Yamaha Wild Star cruiser, disappointingly the propeller on the chair isn't powered.

Toth's other T-motor Sidecars and his wild west village just outside of Budapest can be seen on his website. LINK

Coolest Steampunk Gadgets

Steampunk is a speculative intersection of technology and romance where the future meets the past: Victorian era inventions clash with often dark alternate realities. What started as a literary genre has since evolved into an amazing urban art form which delights in making real-life inventions that are a blend of the modern and anachronistic.

Yes! A steampunk toilet, created by Patrick Brawley — the “antique toilet of the future.” Awesome! It boasts a control panel and laser pointing mechanism. The perfect throne for any steampunk king or queen.

Introducing the Electro-Flush! Technically, TeslaPunk Urinal. Hand-made solid oak tank with battery powered flush pump, laser aiming assist (aim at the laser dot in the bowl at night), lights, antique gauges, flush capacitor, and cup holder. Bowl is a round 1949 Standard. Featured at www.buysteampunk.com. LINK, Via: Youtube
