Super Mario Bros. Synchronized to Play Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now"

(YouTube Link)

This video shows four different levels of Super Mario Bros. in which the sound effects were synchronized to play four different musical parts in the Queen song “Don’t Stop Me Now.” If that explanation doesn’t make sense, it will about a minute into the video. Its origin is a little unclear, as the information is in Japanese.

Drew Friedman draws Frank Sinatra

The fine art prints, in an edition of just 35, are $165 each. From Drew's site:

This portrait of Frank Sinatra by Drew Friedman captures the Chairman of the Board during the 1950s, when his persona defined sophisticated swinging. Frank knew how to hold a note, his liquor, and a dame. In button-down mainstream America, Sinatra oozed free 'n easy; on the opposite side of the cultural divide, Ol' Blue Eyes didn't have to behave like a beatnik to convey cool....

Sinatra performed with the élan of an artist who had no serious competitors. The nonchalant gestures never undercut the passion in The Voice, and his smooth delivery always hinted at power in reserve. Ten years after Frank's passing, his recordings continue to enchant old fans and seduce new ones. A personality larger than life, a legacy bigger than death. "Whatever else has been said about me personally is unimportant," he claimed. "When I sing, I believe. I'm honest."

This door by the architectural firm Matharaoo Associates is designed to resemble a sine wave. Now in the home of a diamond merchant in Surat, India, the door measures 5.2m high and 1.7m wide and is made from 40 blocks of teak. Thanks to 160 pulleys and 80 ball bearings, it pushes open easily, despite its weight. More pictures at the link.

Scrap Metal Recycling: Crazy Can Sculptures

There’s often a large amount of difference between community service and innovative design. Canstruction is an annual event that’s aimed at changing that. The design event is held in cities all around North America, Australia and across the world. Following a public exhibit of the sculptures, all of the food is donated to local food pantries and shelters. A Must See Slide Show of Salvador Dali

© 2006 - Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation - All rights reserved - Legal notice - Privacy - Copyright. Be sure to go to this LINK and watch this. It is awe inspiring.

Salvador Dali

Gala and Eluard divorced in 1932 and she married Dali on August 30, 1934 in a civil ceremony at the municipal council headquarters in Paris’ XIV arrondissement. A church service waited another 26 years — until after Eluard died, thus voiding any reluctance to offend the Catholic Church.

Paul Eluard, who had first “introduced” Dali to Gala by showing him photos of her posing in the nude, was invited to attend the 1934 ceremony but declined. Biographer Ian Gibson surmised that, sharing the surrealist penchant for “free love”, Eluard would have found the rites trite and bourgeois.

In attendance as official witnesses, though, were the painters Yves Tanguy and André Gaston, the latter a resident of the building, at 7 Rue Gauguet, where Dali had his studio. LINK

Watches More Expensive Than A Ferrari

"The Patek Caliber 89 - $5,120,000"
Most of these watches are more complicated than college calculus and have more history than you could learn in a lifetime. You might even need an engineering degree and an instructional tome to figure out how they work. Regardless, all these watches (for one reason or another) are ridiculously cool and absurdly expensive. Sell the Ferrari, liquidate the stocks, and pick up one of these bad-ass timekeeping devices.

So what makes this watch worth $5.12mil? For starters, it is the most complicated watch on the planet with 33 complications. Essentially, it requires a degree in mechanical engineering to understand, but suffice it to say it has everything but the kitchen sink. It also took more time to design than you spent in college (including those extra years “studying” chemistry). LINK, Via: Neatorama

Man trapped in 23-year 'coma' reveals horror

A car crash victim has spoken of the horror he endured for 23 years after he was misdiagnosed as being in a coma when he was conscious the whole time.

Rom Houben, trapped in his paralysed body after a car crash, described his real-life nightmare as he screamed to doctors that he could hear them - but could make no sound.

'I screamed, but there was nothing to hear,' said Mr Houben, now 46, who doctors thought was in a persistent vegatative state.

'I dreamed myself away': Rom Houben, now 46, has told of the nightmare of being trapped in a paralysed body, unable to tell doctors that he was awake, for 23 years

But three years ago, new hi-tech scans showed his brain was still functioning almost completely normally.

Mr Houben described the moment as 'my second birth'. Therapy has since allowed him to tap out messages on a computer screen. LINK

Coolest Steampunk Gadgets

Steampunk is a speculative intersection of technology and romance where the future meets the past: Victorian era inventions clash with often dark alternate realities. What started as a literary genre has since evolved into an amazing urban art form which delights in making real-life inventions that are a blend of the modern and anachronistic.

Bomb-Proof Wallpaper Built for Serious Home Security

So you have built your backyard bomb shelter, but what to hang on the walls? From areas with dangerous natural disasters to full-on war zones, ever building in the heat of battle could likely use a layer of X-Flex. As the video demonstrates, a single sheet is sufficient to keep a wrecking ball from knocking down a concrete block wall. And for the paranoid homeowner: yes, they are even developing a standard commercial version for ordinary citizens. LINK, Via: Vimeo

However, this was initially developed in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for military and other lifesaving purposes abroad. The idea is simple: take rolls of this wallpaper into occupied areas or contested zones, unroll it and stick it on the existing wall. In the event of an explosion, debris is caught within the strong kevlar-sandwiched elastic surface and the tightly-bonded material can even help hold the sides and structure of a building together.

The patent-pending design applies Bernoulli's principle, which states that as the speed of a moving fluid increases, the pressure within the fluid decreases. When wine is poured in the Vinturi, its internal design creates an increase in the wine's velocity and a decrease in its pressure. This pressure difference creates a vacuum that draws in air which is mixed with wine for perfect aeration. LINK

Stafford rallies Lions to last-second win over Browns

It was over when ...

Game ball
Stafford shook off a left shoulder injury suffered on the game's second-to-last play to throw the game-winning touchdown pass in obvious pain on the next play. Notes about the project from directors:

The idea of the Antiope came from our amazing producer Marcella Moser. Together, the three of us built a story of the last Amazon Queen riding her horse to her doom. We saw her riding through abstract, lonely landscapes, and finally launching from a cliff to disintegrate into nothingness. We saw the piece in super-slow motion, with dramatic lighting and little or no colour. To us, this idea melted perfectly with the sad, slow, feeling of inevitable doom that we got from the music.
